I like Alvarez, think he's a solid technical fighter, pretty good power, but ne needs to step up this year. The fact that a past prime Cintron is his best win says a lot. But, I'll cut him some slack, he's only like 21, so he has plenty of future prime years to fight great people.

In 2012, he'll be turning 22, he should step up.

                James Kirkland-Carlos Molina winner
                Vanes Martirosyan
                Austin Trout
                Delvin Rodriguez
                Miguel Cotto
                Erislandy Lara
                Paul Williams

These are people I want to see him fight the next couple years.

Right now, he should jump all over the oppurtunity to fight Vanes. Chavez-Rubio is set, meaning Vanes is still available. I never thought Vanes was anything special, though he's pretty good. A win over him would be Canelo's first step in proving he's legit. Than, after fighting Vanes (a top 154 lb fighter), either fight another good up and coming guy in Trout, or go straight for Cotto and Kirkland.

It looks like Canelo might actually be a good fighter but given his borderline pathetic compitition its hard to tell. And I agree its time for him to step up! I still think its criminal that Suliman and the crooks at the WBC let him fight a guy who nicely could be called a fringe contender (Hatton) at 147 for the 154 world "championship". I've asked this question twice before - did Canelo fighting #4 rated Rhodes (a joke all by itself) fullfill his mandatory defence? With all the negative about Canelo, I think he beats Kirkland when Kirklands chin fails him
