How many more division will Arce get to fight Angkota for fake belts in? Over/under? hehe

that's out of my control. Just be happy that the pics were finally updated a couple of months ago =)

Happy New Year to you as well, and to all of my BScene homies. Thanks for making us THAT site!

Be good for them to be swapped, but you're quite right, and so I can wait a lil' longer. Never know what will happen these next 12 months, too... Ward may go on to lose, Khan may become king!

Winners are based on staff voting. The selection of Ward isn't a strategic move to generate more web hits. For that, Pac or Floyd would be our FOTY every year.

We are not a dictatorship. We put this stuff to a vote and this was the turnout.

As for smaller divisions being underrated - of the nine fighters named, only three fought above 122 this year.

          Jorge Arce (118/122)
          Nonito Donaire (118)
          Kazuto Ioka (105)
          Abner Mares (118)
          Tyson Marquez (112)
          Brian Viloria (112)
          ======
          Lamont Peterson (140)
          Brandon Rios (135)
          Andre Ward (168)

I swear, people ***** around here just for the sake of *****ing.
A lot named but none awarded as usual.

Whatever, Donaire clearly had a better run in my opinion. Can I disagree with Ward being fighter of the year?

          Are you cop or something?

I have no problem with you disageeing. In fact, just to tip my hand, my two votes went to Donaire (1st) and Viloria (runner-up). Even if I voted for Ward, I still respect anyone's opinion all the same. My opinion, Ward's win came more from the Super Six as a whole rather than what exclusively took place in 2011.

What I take issue with is the insistence that we're deliberately slighting the smaller weight fighters. I don't think there's another publication that shows as much love as we do to the lower weight classes.

That said, Donaire had the lead in this race and let it slip out of his hands. He and his team chose to try to ditch Top Rank (a decision I supported, for the record), and it resulted in his sitting on the pine.

And even with Narvaez refusing to fight back, more could've been done on Nonito's behalf (a fight that quite frankly left me with the feeling that Robert Garcia is ridiculously overrated as a trainer). Had he performed better rather than settle for coasting to victory, this wouldn't be up for debate he's hands down FOTY.

Again, while your opinion is respected, your accusations deserved to be called out. That's the only issue I took w/ your post.

Obviously, and it's just ******, he doesn't deserve to be awarded twice for that.

He's the fighter of the Super six but not the fighter of the year.

Donaire has done a lot more in pro boxing than Ward, including in 2011, I think it is pretty much obvious and no fighter come close.

Donaire, Viloria, and Ward were all close. Donaire beat a unified champ; so did Viloria; Ward became one. They each beat a guy somewhere at least on the fringes of P4P discussion. They all had a second foe who wasn't as good as the really good one. Donaire started strong but blew his year by sitting out too long and then won a fight no one sane would ever watch again. I don't care what Narvaez's record was. That fight blew and Donaire was partly responsible. That counts. If the last time everyone saw you, no one gave a crap at the end, and you only fought twice, hard to be Fighter of the Year.

No fighter comes close? Yeah, actually, they did. Maybe one of these days Donaire will learn how not to follow a big win with a business acumen the exact inverse to his fighting ability.
