    Mapping out Jermain Taylor's Comeback

*Note*: First of all, in my opinion I dont think Jermain Taylor should be boxing anymore. The KO losses he suffered were very brutal, and against Abraham he suffered brain bleeding and concussion. I dont think Jermain Taylor should be boxing. PERIOD. I really feel like Jermain Taylor has already suffered brain damage, and could potentially be injured much worse (perhaps death in the boxing ring) if he continues fighting.

Now, to assess his performance VS Jesse Nicklow, Taylor looked good taking into account he has been off for 2 years and fighting for the first time off of the layoff.

However, I really feel Taylor needs 3 to 4 more tuneup bouts before he takes on any top10 opponents. Jermain Taylor is not ready for top10 opposition.

I dont think there's anything wrong with Taylor taking a couple ESPN2 Friday Night Fights matches, or even 1 or 2 non-televised bouts against very limited opposition.

Some guys Id like to see Jermain Taylor fight in his next 1 to 2 bouts include:

    Marcus Upshaw, 13-7-2 (6 KO)
    Delray Raines, 18-10-1 (13 KO)
    Latif Mundy, 10-4 (4 KO)
    Lamar Harris, 6-9-3 (4 KO)
    Shakir Ashanti, 16-12 (4 KO)
    George Rivera, 13-7 (4 KO)

Then, moving into fights 3 and 4 of the comeback, some good opponents would be:

    Jason LeHoullier, 21-7-1 (8 KO)
    Matt Vanda, 44-14 (24 KO)
    Elvin Ayala, 24-5-1 (11 KO)
    Andy Kolle, 24-3 (18 KO)
    Fernando Guerrero, 24-1 (17 KO)
    Purnell Gates, 21-2 (14 KO)

So, what Im saying is Jermain Taylor needs a couple of easy fights, to get back his confidence. He needs 1 or 2 early round KOs, and then maybe 1 or 2 fights where he gets some rounds and wins.

If Jermain's team follows this kind of route, by 2013, he may be ready for top10 opposition.

Truthfully, I could see even an injured Jermain Taylor beating Sergio Mora or Peter Quillin and perhaps winning a title at middleweight.

What does everyone think about this comeback strategy for maximizing Taylor's chances at success?

I honestly feel like Taylor right now is not ready for a top10 puncher.

He could probably pull it off against a non-hitter.

But I could see Taylor getting KO'd brutally again as soon as he steps up.

I dont think Taylor is ready for any top10 at middleweight, right now.

I say one more bum that will actually throw back and give him a fight. The guy last night just didn't throw much at all to really show what taylor gots left but he looked healthy and in phenominal shape. I say one more bum then take on a journeyman like Brian vera. Depending on if he looks good I say Paul Williams after to get a big fight.

If Jermain builds back his confidence, I could see him beating guys like Quillin, Mora at middleweight and perhaps winning a title.

However, I feel Jermain is damaged goods and I think he will always lose by KO to high level punchers. Gennady Golovkin, Grzegorz Proksa, Sergio Martinez even Paul Williams are all fighters I think Jermain Taylor should avoid. Those are all brutal KOs waiting to happen.

Taylor needs to buildup slowly and avoid punchers as long as he can.

Agreed However I think taylor on a good day with his skills could give sergio a good fight its just that punch. That's why i think vera is a good test. If he can't get by vera then he shouldn't be fighting.
