Good to see JT back in there...looked rusty, but what do you expect. Should have another couple of soft touches and gradually step up his competition. Don't wanna see him rush back in there with a dangerous fighter and get KO'd again.

      Zbik or Alcine would work.

      Or Matt Vanda (real soft)

He looked nervous as hell the first few rounds, even worse than usual. And despite the obvious ring rust, he basically broke Nicklow's face with just his jab.

As a fan it still makes me nervous to watch him fight, like I am watching a baby wander into a lion's cage just waiting for the inevitable massacre. It would probably be easier on my heart if he just retired for good, but for now I will just be happy with the win even though it was a crap stoppage.

He needs at least one more fight against a C level guy before moving him up to fight a fringe euro-level belt holder or former title challenger. After seeing the way he reacted to getting forearmed on the side/back of the head against Nicklow, I still have SERIOUS questions about his ability to take a punch, much less sustained combat from a quality opponent. Not that he was necessarily hurt, but he got that haunted look in his eyes and wrapped up QUICK.

Very happy to see JT back, he look funny couple of first rounds but to be expected, he needs a lot more fights he needs to take it slow no big fights, maybe late 2012 a good contender like zbik or sturm, but he needs about 5 or more fights get more comfortable in there, i was excited to see dirrell n JT win,

N to that late punch JT did, i hate when u got fighters that after a round is over they try to walk up to the other boxer n talkin trash cause they kno the round over so they take advantage of that but he got smacked lol

I honestly think he's Roy Jones damaged, it's just Nicklow sucks.
if they weren't concerned why were they trying to end the fight at the 1st chance
I like JT but am afraid you hit the nail! It looked to me like an equilibrium shot (top of head) that he's still getting caught with, the same one that shot to **** Lacey caught JT with but they ruled it a slip. JT is still telegraphing that "bow & arrow" sling right cross which is something you'd think a 2 year layoff and countless gym hours would cure. His jab looked good and maybe there's something still there, but I'm very skeptical. He stepped on the scale at 161, so when it's time to hit a "real scale" at 160 I hope that extra pound or so doesn't put him in the same boat as his AA fight where he had to shed 20 lbs in 20 days from 188 to 168. And finally the right hand now seems to be brittle which he hurt around Rd 2. Not good with such a long layoff b/c when older fighters start experiencing brittle hands, it's like a bent frame on a vehicle; i.e. Everything starts falling apart slowly but surely. Good luck JT, we could sure use the "noise" in the second most prestigious division in Boxing History...please prove me wrong and correct these old habits that are hard to break!

Jermain is 33 years old... he isn't going to be correcting anything. For all his athletic tools and terrific jab, he is still vulnerable defensively combined with a vulnerable chin, which is why it's so hard to watch him fight.

JT doesnt have a bad chin. against pavlik and froch he gassed out and the punch abraham caught him with wouldve knocked out any 168lber in the world.

you can always correct things, you can always get better. it gets harder but 33 isnt an age to stop improving your skills. if anything its when you get up there in age and your reflexes slow down that you need to focus more on your technical skills to make up for it.

he does have defensive flaws, ill give you that.

His chin isn't terrible but it isn't great, and it's worsened by the fact that he doesn't trust his own ability to take a shot. At least that was my impression whenever Nicklow caught him behind the ear and he got that worried look in his eyes and immediately tied up. I think not having confidence in his punch resistance could end up being a self-fulfilling prophecy.

And I'm not saying 33 is too old to stop trying to improve your skills, but when you've been doing something for 22 straight years it is deeply ingrained in motor memory and is going to be really, really hard to break. It would almost be like asking you to change how you walk. We've been talking about Taylor's defensive flaws since the beginning of his career, so at this stage I have no reason to believe he is all of a sudden FINALLY going to be like, "oh yeah, I carry my right hand too low and don't move my head." I'm not saying he can't change, just that it is not probable.

Alcine looked decent in his victory over Lemiuex; he boxed well, he avoided/blocked most of his oppoennt's power shots and seemed to be in great shape. I think this would be too dangerous a fight for Taylor at this point...

Taylor needs some soft opponents like Lyell or Vanda right now..

                      Taylor dominated that fight.
