Comments Thread For: Denis Lebedev's Options: Tarver, Jones or Maybe Afolabi

Vladimir Hryunov, the prominent Russian manager and promoter, recently discussed the possible fight opportunities for cruiserweight Denis Lebedev (23-1, 17KOs), who captured the WBA's interim title after beating veteran James Toney in November. Some of the options include IBO champion Antonio Tarver, full WBA champion Guillermo Jones or a possible fight for the vacant WBO crown, should Marco Huck get stripped, against Ola Afolabi.

Any of those three opponents would make for an interesting matchup.

"Tarver offered us respectable money, but the fight could take place in russia...We have plans"
By that I'm guessing he means that he knows Tarver could beat his overated ass and wants the fight to take place in Russia In case he needs a robbery decision to win.

Yeah, I think Lebedev is an underated fighter; he's a technical fighter, he can punch and he has great endurance...

tarver is the only one who has a chance of all opponents mentioned, he has the speed and technical skills to make lebedev look average. however lebedev is a very strong cruiserweight who targets the body and applies pressure which could wear the aging tarver out

jones is way too inactive and hasnt impressed me yet, afolabi could give him problems for as long as the fight lasts but will probably just gas out or be bullied the entire fight

Lol the same Ledebev that couldnt KO a one legged James Toney and took RJJ 10 rounds and was getting outboxed along the way. If Cunningham can KO Huck but Lebedev cant that lets me know his power is over rated. Of course one solid shot can KO even the best of them, but lets not get carried away.

Tarver would UD Ledebev even at his age he has enough left in the tank to do so. Jones would KO Lebedev and he would be willing to go to Russia to do so, just because he doesnt fight often doesnt mean he isnt a quality fighter, hes been in with the best of them and some of his losses are controversial. Afolabi would outbox him but get jobbed because the only place that fight would do well in is Russia since Afolabi isnt a big name to have it anywhere else.

Lebedev's a clown. He beats on shot guys with no chin (Roy, Enzo) or injured old men (Toney). He's also extremely ugly.

Has any supposed contender ever fought three 40+ guys in a row before? Hopefully Tarver still has enough to make Lebedev look silly.
