I can understand that everyone's looking for a payday, and trying to avoid difficult matchups--Martinez included. That's just business, I suppose, whether we, the fans, like it or not.
This is why the sanctioning bodies should be responsible for forcing the contenders/champions to fight, at the risk of the belt being stripped from the champion.
What really frustrates me is not the trash talking, or the jockeying for position, from the boxers, or promoters protecting their assets, but the very blatant, shameless inconsistency of the WBC. First, it declares that JCC Jr. and Martinez fight, then allows JCC Jr.-Rubio to proceed. Truly, truly awful.Comment

I understand that Martinez has even less leverage without a belt, but I believe he had no choice but to vacate. After all the talk coming from Martinez, he can't just sit quietly and accept the WBC's reversal, or he will lose face. (At this point, "face" is all he has.)Sergio honestly should just shut up with all of this press that he does everyday. It gets really annoying seeing him say "oh Chavez jr. this and that. Oh I hate him blah blah blah blah blah." Now he relinquishes his Diamond belt and expects a fight? He just loves to do ****** things huh? DiBella and his own stubbornness will now prevent any real fights for him. He isn't going to fight Pirog, Geale, Sturm, or Golovkin since they are "big names" like Mayweather or Pacquiao and he isn't going to be fighting any 154 or 168lbers. Even if Chavez jr. beats Rubio (pretty good chance as well) I doubt that Martinez will do anything different to get a fight with him. Now that he doesn't have the diamond belt (lol), Chavez jr. has no reason to fight him at all since the WBC can't force him. Essentially, he shot himself in the foot. He also probably thinks that Mayweather and Pac might fight him now... He has spent nearly 2 years calling them out, shouldn't he kinda get it by now that they aren't going to fight him? It's just common sense when you're 2 weight classes above them.
Sergio is probably just going to have a few more fights against decent fighters and just retire now that he's up in age. He's not getting any big fights anytime soon.Last edited by liuj88; 12-30-2011, 11:23 PM.Comment

who is the real liar?
Its funny how martinez is calling chavez a lie and vacating the belt fake or not. I have never heard him call out chavez jr. he only takes on nobody's. Andy Lee is out there , where is martinez. Thw WBC said after this next bout it is martinez vs chavez, so what is the problem. I think he does not want a match with chavez, that is why he is vacating the belt.If he waits a few months he will be next. It does not make sense. Anyway he had macklin lined up before WBC mandated the bout.Martinez only calls out people who he is bigger than manny, floyd. What about ward, bute, froch, sturm, Lee, canelo, cotto, dirrell, the list is plentiful. He only fights untalented fighters that are marketed as quality. Who is the real liar?Comment

How could you not be aware that Martinez has been calling out Chavez for months?
Diamond champion Sergio Martinez (48-2-2, 27 KOs) doesn't see a fight taking place with WBC middleweight title holder Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (44-0, 31KOs). The WBC recently ordered Chavez to defend his title against Martinez. The two boxers have return dates already scheduled in 2012. Martinez will return on March 13 in New York's Madison Square Garden and Chavez has a date set for February 4th in Texas. BoxingScene.com reported on Monday that a mandatory purse bid has been set for January 6th, but Martinez doesn't feel confident about Chavez accepting.
Despite the mandates from the WBC, Diamond champion Sergio Martinez and his adviser, Sampson Lewkowicz, do not expect a 2012 showdown with full middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (43-0, 30KOs). The Mexican champion will defend his title on November 19th against Peter Manfredo Jr. at the Reliant Arena in Houston, Texas. WBC President Jose Sulaiman has ordered the winner of Chavez-Manfredo to face Martinez by March of 2012.
Promoter Lou DiBella is furious with the current situation between Sergio Martinez (48-2-2, 27KOs) and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (44-1, 31KOs). Last week at the WBC's 49th annual convention in Las Vegas, Chavez was ordered to defend his WBC middleweight title against Martinez, with the winner to face Marco Antonio Rubio by June, but Chavez is likely going straight to Rubio on February 4th in Texas. Martinez is scheduled to fight on March 17th.
Bill Emes catches up with promoter Lou DiBella to discuss the controversy surrounding the middleweight title clash between WBC champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Diamond champion Sergio Martinez.
Promoter Lou DiBella has advised BoxingScene.com that he submitted a request to the WBC to hold an immediate purse bid for the mandatory fight between middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and mandatory challenger Sergio Martinez. For the moment, DiBella and Team Martinez are sitting back and waiting for the sanctioning body to set a date for the purse bids.

What are you talking about? Martinez beat the #1 and #2 in his division.
Kidding, right ?
Stop being silly. Pavlik? Williams?
And what about Chavez himself ?
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
height 6′ 0″ - 183cm
reach 73″ - 185cm
Sergio Gabriel Martinez
height 5′ 10″ - 178cm
reach 75″ - 191cm
Martinez is a large JMW who is already punching above his weight to fight bigger guys at 160, for example, Barker dwarfed him. Martinez can still make 150 man, so it is ridiculous to suggest that he fight guys who will come in at 180+ and could fight at LHW.
You, stop being so silly.Comment
