Rahman should not be the WBA mandatory, but why in the world is Povetkin avoiding him?

You're right. Povetkin has been absurdly over-protected.

I doubt he's avoiding him. Lets be serious, Huck moving up to heavy to face Povetkin is a very big deal in Germany. That's a big fight. Povetkin-Rahman means little. The last memory in Germany of Rahman is Klitschko destroying him a few years back

Fair enough but lets not pretend Povetkin is anywhere near Wlad's league, Povetkin is a winnable fight for either Huck or Rahman even at this point.

Didn't Rahman price himself out so he went with Boswell instead?

Oh well, Povetkin is not really WBA "champion" either, Wladimir is. So it's all kind of farcical. But no doubt a fight with Huck will do massive business in Germany, whereas a fight with badly faded Rahman, not so much.

I agree Huck is very popular in Germany, and so Povetkin-Huck will be a big fight.

But I know Povetkin values his paper belt, so doesn't he need to get this mandatory out of the way?

Of course, the WBA is unlikely to strip a boxer with a powerful promoter like Sauerland. It's possible they may try to have Rahman fight for an interim title.
