King was probably the most powerful promoter of the 70s, 80s, and 90s. His power is somewhat diminished now. Most boxing promoters are scumbags and King in no exception. Some of his lowlights, convincing the WBC to strip Bobby Chacon of the 130 lb title for fighting the #1 rated contender (Boza-Edwards) rather than his fighter (Camacho), Kings WBA Hwt Champion Tim Witherspoon going to England to defend vs Frank Bruno. Bruno, the challenger and loser, got something like 1.5 million while Witherspoon, the Champ and winner got 90k after King took out "expenses".There are many more examples of this kind of **** King pulled. King also went to prison for manslaughter for beating a man to death. On the plus side, I really miss his PPV cards from the 80s and 90s that routinely had 4,5,or even sometimes 6 quality championship fights on the card.

Yea the good old days of boxing eh, When there were great fight cards..Them days are lost but I hope they return soon but I am guessing all these Micky mouse belts have something to do with it? I am so surprised that someone somewhere could not of done something about Dons exploitation of these boxers.. didn't know that about Witherspoon that's terrible

All he cares about is $$$$$$ and didn't give 2 shyts what happened to his fighters but he made all the great fights happen and was THE reason boxing was so popular in the 80s

I was watching the Benn Vs Mccllellan fight and I noticed that at the end of the fight when Gerald is in bad condition in the corner, He was more concerned with kissing Benns arse and getng T.v coverage..Had that been the other way round I think Frank Warren though a bit of a mupet at times would have been over there showing some concern? I am just wondering does this just sum Don king up..Is he self indulgent?
Well yes he is a scumbag, I made a thread recently asking whether posters will give him respect when he dies, many voted that they would not.....I won't.

Kinda knew he was a bit of a Dark horse but when I see his actions Re- Benn fight the penny dropped...That kinda person is in a way quite a evil ***er

But he did put on some great cards! So for all his greatness in match making, He is stained with his treatment and attitude towards the fighters...It's a funny ole game

Yeah the guy is business and street smart so he was able to give us some good fights but doesn't change that fact that he is a terrible human being.
