  • Comments Thread For: Pirog's Promoter Responds To The Trainer of Golovkin

The trainer of "regular" WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (22-0, 19KOs) stated in a recent interview that his fighter desires to stage a unification against WBO champion Dmitry Pirog (19-0, 15KOs), but the Russian champion's team have never sent them a proposal.

Pirog has been fighting nobody's whils waiting for Martinez and sturm. If he were to fight golovkin he would strengthen his résumé and raise his own appeal more so. I can't understand how pirog went from being this monster who ko'd Jacobs to now being....well just another somebody. He needs to be fighting in the US.

I would like to see Pirog in a tougher fight then his last couple where he has looked comfortable most of the time.I get the feeling from a few things his manager / promoter has said that he's happy to dine out on the belt at home for the time being, but maybe I'm just reading it wrong

Yep, thats right, Golovkin is undeserving, and can wait in line.

When he has achieved what Pirog has, then he can talk.

          No, wait.....

You bet, lets see Pirog beat someone other than a green prospect. Pirog needs to make himself relevant instead of leveraging off the Jacobs win for the rest of his life.

It's funny that Pirog thinks Golovkin should fight better competition, since he himself is living off a win over a green American prospect.

haha, this is what i was going to say bro. just cause pirog has a 'belt' around his waist, that means golovkin isn't on his level or something. proksa and macklin are both above pirog in rankings because they fought guys like slyvester and sturm. pirog and his team need to know that a belt doesn't guarantee anything if you don't have not one proven or known name on your record. i would love to see this fight, pirog is already 31 and golovkin is turning 30 this coming year i think, so perhaps in late 2012 this fight would be right to make. but wow, never thought pirog's promoter would say to someone the same thing dibella told them.

There should be a 160 pound single elimination tourney and Chavez can play the role of Bute by fighting guys like Manfredo while claiming to be the best.
