CANFIELD, Ohio - Former boxing champ Kelly Pavlik is free on bond after being arrested for a DUI late Wednesday night.
According to an arrest report, Pavlik allegedly hit a lamp post and telephone pole with a green ATV before driving home. When officers came to investigate, Pavlik's friend Daniel Ferreri said he had been the one in the ATV. Pavlik intervened however, yelling obscenities at the cops, who suspected the boxer to be intoxicated, and demanding them to leave.
Ferreri eventually said that Pavlik was the one who drove the ATV. Ferreri was then arrested for obstruction of justice and after refusing a series of sobriety tests, Pavlik was arrested as well.
Pavlik was booked on charges of driving under the influence, failing to stop after an accident, and failing to maintain control of his vehicle.
Jail records indicate that Pavlik was released on bond around 2:00 a.m.
His arraignment is set for Friday in Canfield at The Mahoning County Municipal Court.
