I attended only my second live fight ever this past Saturday. I was able to watch Roy Jones/Joe Calzaghe in '08. I was seated in the front row of one of the 100 level seats, which is pretty much floor level. Our seats just happened to be by one of the entrances, so here's a bunch of people that I was able to meet:
1) Victor Ortiz: I noticed him right away because of his K.C. Royals hat. Very good guy, who happens to be one of my favorite fighters. He allowed me to take a pic of him and his girl.
2) Mikkel Kessler: Walked by, smiling. He walked by again after the fight, and I asked him if he wanted to take on Ward again. He shrugged his shoulders like 3 times.
3) David "Big Papi" Ortiz: He walked by before the fight, and I thought he was someone famous. Once I realized it, he was long gone. Saw him after the fight and shook his hand. He's a husky dude.
4) Lamont Peterson, Anthony Peterson, and his crew: Lamont walked by with shades on, as Khan did some damage to his eye. I saw Anthony later, and he allowed me to take a pic of him.
5) Lou Dibella: I was very drunk, as he seemed to be. After the fight, I asked him "Who you got, Lou?" He told me "I don't think Froch won 10 seconds of that fight."
6) Naazim Richardson: There were only two rounds left, and Naazim walked in. I think he was with his nephew, Karl Dargan. He was calm as usual. Good guy.
7) Danny Garcia: He was with his trainer/father, and a few people. He thought Ward won convincingly. It wasn't until a few hours ago that I remembered that he's signed to fight Erik Morales for El Terrible's 140 lb. title in January on HBO. Wish I would've asked him about it.
8) Steve Smoger: 45 minutes after working the main event, Steve was hanging with the fans. He took a pic with my buddy and I. He was talking about how he never gets work on the west coast. He was making jokes and having fun. Great guy.
9) Andre Ward's wife: After the right, she was in and out of the main floor a few times. Not sure why. Steve Smoger had a good conversation with her.
10) Kell Brook: That was the first time I saw him fight. Just congratulated him.
***Lucian Bute, Andre Berto, and Bernard Hopkins: I know they were in the house, but they didn't come by my way.
Not a bad night, for only a couple of $100 tickets!
