By Cliff Rold - Horse racing hasn’t seen a triple-crown winner in decades. There have been those who got two legs of the honor, but they fell short of the glory. One argument made as to why it’s been so long, paraphrasing, is that horses aren’t run like they used to be. Today’s horses don’t have the stuff of the old, lay off too much, and are left more prone to injury.
As boxing heads towards the final leg of the Super Six Super Middleweight tournament, one wonders if there is an analogous argument to be made in the sweet science. In another era, twelve prizefights between six men, none of them required to fight more than five times, might have taken place in a year.
Year and a half tops.
