He will stop Floyd from spoiling, take points off him and allow Hatton to fight on his chest.

Hatton will not get frustrated, tire himself out an lose the plot an will be able to fight his fight.

First, that wasn't the only foul Mayweather was committing. He was dipping below the waste several times as well. Second, your whole post is baseless because if you had a better referee then Khan would/could have gotten points deducted for excess holding and pressing down on Peterson's head. These two things were ridiculously repeated over and over. Third, rounds 3 and 4 tell the story of the fight. Khan never really recovered from the great body work by Peterson. Khan had flashy four punch combos which mostly landed on the forearms and gloves of Peterson...which obviously didn't convince the judges. Those combos came in between running for his life. He tried to play tough guy but it was clear that he was getting hurt by Peterson. Close fight and a great fight to watch over and over again.

Another major fight in history changes if Joe Cooper is the man in charge. Ali vs Frazier II.

Ali constantly held Frazier's head down when in close, ala-Khan and pushed Frazier of him throughout the fight as Khan did to Peterson.

Ali actually comitted these offences far more than Khan but did not recieve any point deductions.

With Cooper being incharge, Ali loses this fight either by a DQ or Frazier outpoints him, because Cooper will stop Ali from holding and pushing.

Ali would have gotten beat twice by Smokin Joe and may not have become the icon he is in boxing.

Last weekend's fight between Peterson and Khan saw point deductions for pushing, something that is very rare in boxing, and something I don't think I have seen before.

Cooper warned Peterson a few times for coming in with his head, but no point deduction ever looked likely.

Khan's pushing was an infringement but a very minor one and was in response to Peterson coming in with his head. Khan also held Peterson's head down in clinches, another infringement but also one that goes largely unpunished in boxing.

If Cortez or almost any other ref was the referee for this fight, Khan would have not had any points deducted and would have been much more protected from Peterson's head in his face, and would have won the fight by a comfortable margin.

So it got me thinking that if Cooper was the reffing some of the past big fights would the result have changed.

First up,

Wlad vs Haye, Wlad held Haye's head down on the inside and done this numerous time to stop Haye working on this inside. Cooper would not have stood for this, point deductions for Wlad, possible DQ or Haye gets the KO.

Then we have Hatton vs Mayweather. Floyd foreman choked, repeatedly held and pushed of using his forearm, stopping Hatton from working on the inside. A lot more infringements than Khan, could we expect to see, point deductions off Mayweather thus allowing Hatton to fight to his game plan. Hatton wins on points, or Floyd gets DQ.

Should Cooper's stance on reffing be the way forward?

as the refs talk to the fighters the officiating body should talk to the refs prior to the fight. a refresher on all sides would do boxing good. allot of fights are coming down to judges i personally like steve smoger. just lets the fight happen imo.

It was a boring fight with not many big punches landed by either man, Wlad won, but Haye at least won 3 round, 4 on my card.
But when they did get in close(which was not often), Wlad held Haye's head down everytime. I think Cooper would have been taking points of Wlad forcing him to stop using this tactic.

Yeah the judges in Germany even had those scores, Foreman and Valuev even had it closer.
