Some think Khan won some call it a draw others give Peterson the edge. Whatever way you look at it it was a close fight. If Khan could fight on the inside he would have won easily but as I have been saying all along his lack of inside fighting skills concerned me. Roach should have been working on this from the get go but he worked on what Khan was already good at and neglected the inside and Peterson fought the right strategy to expose the weakness.

If Peterson hit hard the fight would have been one sided. There is no point pretending Khan can fight on the inside because he can't maybe against lemmons but no way at top level. Khan should be looking about fixing the glaring weakness instead of blaming the ref and making excuses. Even if he did win the fight he should admit to himself that if he had some infighting skills he would not have had to resort to running backwards ,holding and pushing. He might have got away with it with Cortez as ref but he can't rely on that kind of thing all the time.

The bottom line is when Khan goes up to WW he will no longer have as big a height advantage and those guys hit harder and Peterson has shown the blue print of pressure fighting that he can't cope with. Blaming the ref and trying to reverse decisions is not going to change that. He needs to get some skill on the inside otherwise he is going to have avoid pressure fighters and rely on careful matchmaking to extend his career. I am not sure Roach is the right coach to fix his inside game and in fighting seems totally at odds with his hit and run style.This is not going to be easy for him but he should start facing the truth and stop behaving like a politician. That might work with fooling his fans and UK media but it won't cut it with the likes of Ortiz, Rios and Bradley or Peterson . They will pressure him and IMO he needs to work on his inside work and avoid taking on the top guys for a while until he is a more complete fighter.

If Peterson can get a conditioning coach like Ariza and power up I worry for Khan in a rematch. Not getting the rematch right now may well turn out to be the best thing for Khan if he uses his time wisely and faces the truth and does something about it.
