Pirog has inherited Paul Williams and Margarito before him's title as 'the most avoided man in boxing'.

Poor management early on both fighters should have been fighting on undercards in the states .

Makes perfect sense. Nobody really knows either guy. If they can get a couple fights in america and snatch a title or 2 the fight grows. This is a fight destined for hbo in about 18 months.

Golovkin would get to pirog eventually. Take a while because of the style but the russian gets stopped

Oleg Hermann, the manager of WBA "regular" middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (21-0, 18KOs), would like to see his fighter face WBO champion Dmitry Pirog (19-0, 15KOs), but says the two boxers needs to fight in other markets, especially the United States, to build their names because most fans are not familiar with him and that creates a problem in selling this type of a fight to a major cable network. Almost all of Pirog's fights have been staged in Russia, while Golovkin has been fighting mostly in Germany.

"Pirog is a very interesting opponent for us. But Gennady and Dmitry must first make a name for themselves in America and then try to unify the titles. Because at the moment it appears from a financial point of view, this fight is not going to create interest, neither in Russia or Germany, or anywhere else. If both boxers move forward and build something in a certain market, then it makes it possible to sell this fight, for example, on American channels HBO and Showtime - then this fight can take place," Hermann told Alexander Pavlov.

                -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is why I what I've been saying about Pirog in general.

The middleweight division is one of the most overlooked divisions in boxing. These guys need to start fighting each other already though

This is why I think it doesn't make sense to make Pirog vs Martinez right now. Pirog has potential to make a great opponent for Martinez, but it would be a shame to waste Pirog on Martinez before he's able to make a bit of a name for himself fist. If Pirog beats Geale on Showtime, Martinez vs Pirog could be a good meaningful fight people would want to see. It's all about timing. Barker vs Martinez is a ****ty fight at any time. Pirog vs Martinez is only slightly better right now, but has the potential to be much better.
