Michael Watson wants to light the Olympic flame

Former super-middleweight boxer Michael Watson wants to light the Olympic flame

I think this is fitting honour for a man who gave so much to British boxing and took so little.

Everyone knows his story, I need not tell it to you, you’re all knowledgeable boxing fans.

What i would like is for people to get behind the idea, so please reply adding your support for this fantastic man to officially start the London 2012 Olympics

BS - if this carries momentum can we have a sticky please

Would be fantastic if it could happen. Hopefully he gets the chance to do so.

To be fair to many on here, a lot of them won’t know who Michael Watson is. He was around in an era where internet was not available, and with this forum being as young as it is people probably think of Michael Watson as just a boxer who was permanently injured.

          Sad, but true.

There does seem a serious lack of actual boxing knowledge on this forum. There is more a preference for squabbling about who is the best fighter. Silly antics, but those of youth which i suppose is how it is.

My favourite era of boxing with the Super Middleweight division was from the 80's till the late 90's.

Michael Watson....never a fan of his but he had balls and he beat a rising Nigel Benn via KO...and IIRC, he was winning in the Eubank fight too. He, like Herol Graham (another boxer i was never a fan of) deserved a world title reign.

Id love to see Michael light the Olympic flame.
