Because this is boxing not warring he doesnt need to warr with margarito but who had the more meanful shots who head pop out more ? I saw Margo head pop around like a bubble doll all night. What do you think would have happened if Cotto fought the same way that he did in the first fight??? I think it would have ended the same....Tony taking him apart and beating him to a pulp. No plaster there! Margarito left his face beat up in this 2nd fight and Cotto ran and boxed all night!! Cotto did not dare and trade with him. I know this is boxing so Cotto has all the right to box and run all night, but he said Margarito didnt hit hard at all, but yet he ran for his life when they started trading.

That was a very far-fetched thing to say. He still has respectable punching power. Cotto had to move because Margarito has two attributes that trumps his: stamina and chin. Cotto could've chosen to stay in there and trade with Margarito, but sooner or later Margarito wears you down. It's better to get tired on movement alone rather than movement AND getting punched to the body with hooks and uppercuts.

Just because he moved in both fights doesn't mean he fought the same way. He would literally retreat to the ropes in the first fight....he was never on the ropes in this fight and he was constantly moving. And he pushed Tony off and clinched when he needed to, as you noted.

There was a STARK difference in gameplan. Actually I think there just was no gameplan in the first fight.

And to answer the TS's question, if Cotto just retreated to the ropes again I think he would have gotten stopped again. The few times Tony was able to get leverage on his punches he seemed to have some steam on them.

It's very easy to overlook because of the pro-Cotto crowd and because Margarito's punches aren't that flashy compared to Cotto's 3-4 snapping punch combinations. I could make timemarks and everything for that.

Cotto, for the most part, moved away from the ropes and fought a better fight this time around and looked good enough to have won 8 or 9 rounds of the fight.

A stark difference would've been if he didnt get hit or if he'd done what Mosley did to Tony.

He did make some nice adjustments. The clinching and pushing bought him a lot of time. But that stuff can also tire you. And he was still running and moving A LOT. Its hard to do that for 12 full rounds which is why I wanted to see the last 3.

I would've liked to see the final three rounds as well. However, I believe Margarito was going to get stopped sooner or later. I just can't see Cotto giving in knowing the significance of the fight and the fact that it's in Madison Square Garden. Cotto would've tied Margarito up in the last three rounds and continued to throw combinations while separating himself from Margarito OR move back and then throw a lunging left hand. With Margarito's eye growing increasingly swollen, that area was going to become a very easy target.

I'm happy that Cotto won, and he avenged his loss. To some degree, he also got his REVENGE, but it wasn't AS COMPLETE as most people wanted.

I think Margarito, plaster or not, would always be one of Cotto's toughest opponents and I think it showed last Saturday night. The clash of styles is what it is.

I'd agree that Pac and Mosley worked Margarito much better.

They basically made him submit.

Cotto was sharp but there is no denying he was on his bike.
Props to him because that's the way he wins against Margs.
He was never going to walk him down and make him submit like Pac and Mosley did.

So he got his revenge but it wasn't a knock him out then spit on him type revenge, which it seemed is what he wanted in the pre-fight build up.

I am with you on that this proves nothing if he cheated or not . the only way we find out if margo runs low on cash and write a book about to cash out. There to many variables. like the frist fight was at 147 Cotto was much stonger Margarito was much weaker (he stonger at 154) the glove size and everything else

and yeah standing and trading with Margs is not the way you beat him... not for Cotto anyway. Mosley could do it because of his explosiveness, not to mention he caught Toney on the right night.
