Considering all of the elements of this situation, the stoppage was justified (tho i would like to have seen the fight completed). If marg would have gotten all his paper work for a license turned in on time, we might not have had this discussion. But he waited til the last moment, put nysac in a bad spot to push through a license. All eyes were on margs eye and NYSAC.

Ya, margs a tough sob, but he lost that fight, and it wasnt looking good for him in the later rounds. He wasn landing anything effective, nothing like the body shots in the first fight that payed off later, nothing. His eye was ***ed, Cotto was having his way with marg, circling that way and landing hard shots.

I think it's a possibility. No comfort needed, though, since I feel that, whether he'd gotten the late stoppage or not, a faded Margarito had already done more to prove he was legit the first time out than to prove he cheated.

IKR. As revenges go, that was anticlimactic as all get out. My abiding memory will always be a shopworn, one-eyed Margarito coming forward and laughing and whooping it up at Cotto's shots like a badman.

I am seriously becoming a Marg fan. Hope his eye heals.

I was neutral to Cotto before, but now it is becoming dislike because he is taking the Marg win too seriously when he basically fought the same exact way.

He might as well send Pac a portion of his paycheck for helping him beat Marg.

Don't get me wrong, if Marg cheated in the first fight then he deserved the whooping he got. Cotto just shouldnt be acting like he slayed the beast that is Tony Margarito. He didn't.

Yeah, people are severely overstating Cotto's performance. This fight had more to do with what was wrong with Margarito's eye than what Cotto was doing. The eye swelled shut in like 2 rounds. It was only a matter of time until the fight got stopped, no matter how Cotto was performing.

If Cotto had knocked down Margarito with a left hook he didn't see coming (because of the eye), and he was unable to get up at the count of 10, they would've said: "If Margarito's eye was good, that wouldn't have happened! ****** ref! Margarito was up at the count of 9.75 seconds! FIX!"

If Cotto had stopped Margarito with a left hook to the body, they would've said: "Whoop dee doo! Tony could've gotten up! He just refused to do so. Also, I think the punch was low."

If Cotto had trapped Margarito against the ropes and unleashed a barrage on him prompting Smoger to get in there, they would've said: "WTF?! That was a quick stoppage! Smoger's the worst ref in the business! Margarito was playing possum! Haven't you guys ever seen the rope-a-dope?! Go read on your history, newbs!"

If Cotto had hit Margarito with a left hook and knocked him out Pacquiao/Hatton style, they would've said: "Well see, now that's just fake! Margarito was just taking a nap from all the hard work he's put in his career! He's a warrior! Ref should've called time in and let Tony earn his rest! ****** Smoger!"
