Who wants to be reffed by Smoger in their next fight with Cotto or Margarito now?
He called them warriors and give both fighters credit

    What is wrong with that?

Smoger and Bayless are the only ones that should be allowed near big big fights. Dracula aint bad either, but I haven't seen him work a big fight since Diaz JMM II

Smoger should ref Maidana-Rios if it ever happens.

Awesome ref, I hope he refs more high profile fights and Cortez needs to retire. He gets involved in the fight more than the fighters at times, Smoger realises that he has to make the fight as natural as it can be, allow in-fighting and only interfere when he absolutely has to. Cortez does not allow fighting on the inside and hes generally an annoying guy when reffing.

Smoger and Bayless are the best.

Smoger by far the best in the business. When you see Steve up there you know it's going to be fair.

I'm aware of that, but when referees are also fans of the fighter it can influence how they call a fight and making public statements to that effect can influence the perceptions of the spectator and are not in the interests of the sport.

They're there to officiate, that's it, nothing more. Not analyse a fight, say how much they like this fighter or that fighter etc.

Can you imagine if a tennis umpire came out and said how he really liked how one player played? or a NFL, EPL or NBA referee how he was a big fan of a certain team? It's digging a hole for themselves and raising su****ions.

Just ref. Leave the analysis and fanboyism to the paid analysts and fans.

                  ATG Ref right here.

If he's not in the HOF yet, he should be.
