Mayweather beating Cotto would do nothing for Floyd legacy-wise. He already won the 154 title.

If Cotto can beat Pacquiao in a rematch, then that might attract Mayweather a little more.

The thing what killed things for Cotto was when he loss to Pacquiao. If he never loss to Pac, after avenging the Margarito loss, people would've still looked at him as an elite fighter.

But what other options besides Pac does Floyd has? Cotto is the $$$.

I like Cotto I really do, and I am really proud of him for beating Margs. From a pay perspective I certainly wouldn't mind Cotto getting the monster pay day, but other than that I have absolutely no interest in actually seeing this fight. Cotto has absolutely nothing to trouble Floyd and he would take a comprehensive a** beating to an absurdly wide decision.
