    Interview with Tarick Samaci

Tarick Samaci has had a roller coaster ride in the sport of boxing. Originally from Detroit, Tarick started boxing at the age of 8 at a local recreation center. With support and training from his grandfather and father (who were both professional boxers) Tarick has built up a professional record of 20-1, before retiring in 2001 after the inability to land a title shot. Before going Pro, Tarick was an Olympic Trials finalist.

After Tarick gave up on boxing, he went on to earn a B.A. from the University of Michigan, got his real estate license and became a broker with RE/MAX Team 2000 in Dearborn, Mi. He sells homes there and also fixes up old houses and flips them. [details]

hope he really was rusty cause he was beaten badly by the amateurish
fighter, juan de la rosa. still he has an unusual fighting style that may
cause problems for other fighters. still hes got no chance of a world title

Tarrick was rusty for the contender. I actually sparred him for the contender auditions in Detroit, I was way rusty myself being inactive for so long, he ran for the entire round.

We were supposed to do 2 rounds for the audition. Earlier, before I even knew we were matched he came up and was like, "Hey if we get matched lets just work good ya know. Throw some jabs, use movement and defense and such...." Basicaly we were to go easy and show some skill.

Well, we get going and he comes out rapid firing jabs and hooks at me while I'm moving in. I'm slipping some, blocking some, eating some. So I shoot a right hand, not that hard mind you, to get him off of me. I was just boxing the way that I box, coming forward. So all of a sudden he loads up on an uppercut and it landed good. My nose started bleeding from both nostrils. I wiped my nose with my glove and saw the blood on the white tape around the laces. I was like you motha ****a!!!

So I get into hot pursuit as he satrted up on his bicycle. Tarrick was always a good mover while using his jab and he was able to keep away until the end of the round. I finally found the range and started getting in when I got him in a corner. I over shot with my right hand and said f-it and stayed south paw and started digging hooks when the bell rang.

Frank Stallone came over and gave me a squirt of water as I( turned to look at Tarrick. He was leaving the ring, climbing out through the ropes. I was like, where the hells he going... we got another round. Stallone says, " I dont know, I guess he's had enough." I was pissed, started bitching out loud about how we were supposed to go 2 rounds, he shows his ass on me and then runs out on me. I did honestly have trouble finding the range at the beginning of the round but was closing ground at a rapid pace near the end of the round. I wanted that shot to my nose back!

Regardless, he left and ended up making the show. I didnt see his bout on the show so I cant really comment on it.

Back in the day at Galaxy Tarrick and I would always be sparring. I would work 3 rounds with Tarrick and 3 with Bronco just about every day it seems. Bronco was a very good fighter. Tarrick was good if he could box with you but never could handle the pressure fighter very well. His dad used to ***** at my trainer and I for always working so hard. Some days I would rip into him hard. To me it was just how I fought, pressuring my opponent.

I hope that if he comes back fighting that he will do well, he is a good guy (excluding the con he put over on me at the audition ). I dont know that he has it to win a title but he could still do well if he trains properly.

I was a pro fighter back in the day. Used to fight out of Jackie Kallens stable with JAmes Toney, Bronco MCcart and Tarrick. I'm a referee now.

I wouldnt say that Tarrick used me to get fame but it does seem that I got conned at the audition, but thats my own fault for being a trusting soul.

I am no longer licensed as a pro but back in the day I was. Now I'm a referee/trainer and such.

At the first contender auditions we had alot of amatuers at the auditions. Some guys never even had the gloves on before and tried out.

Im the guy in my avatar with Jackie after my first pro fight. On my record I have 2 speeding tickets and one peeing in public ticket. I claimed innocence on the peeing in public ticket but the judge frowned at me and made me pay a fine.
