overall, i just think diaz is a few steps ahead of steward. . . steward is old school and set in his ways, whereas diaz is evolves with the game - he does research and stays on top of every development/new techniques/training methods, etc. . . he just seems like the future of successful boxing trainers. . . he comes from THE BEST boxing system in the world, in cuba. . .

i feel like steward just goes through the motions, and is more concerned about sealing his legacy and getting paid, whereas diaz actually IS IN LOVE with boxing, and actually enjoys every minute of what he does

I think the language barrier is something else that makes the transition alot smoother with Diaz, and I liked how he put things in perspective for Cotto. It was good to see Steward have Cotto set up punches again with the jab and launching the big right off them. He was stringing combos together beautifully. His defense also improved under Steward. But I like how he had Cotto upright actually, b/c before that Cotto would put all of the weight on his lead foot and it made him flat footed. He's not Wlad or Hearns tho, ur def right.

Diaz wasn't afraid to point out Cotto's flaws and really throw them in his face. I agree with you on Cuban boxing, my father and I were discussing the exact same thing before the fight and how it was Cubans dominating Mexicans in the olympics. I've always believed Cotto's best punch was the left hook to the body. Maybe Diaz changed the plan according to the state of Margarito's eye and decided it was better to damage it, neglecting the body. But yeah, when you put it like that--Diaz seems to devote everything to the sport of boxing so you can't go wrong there either.

I thought cotto looked way more skilled with diaz. Faster, better foot work, more accurate.

Then again, it's not hard to look like pernell whitaker against margarito

I also liked that he was locking Margarito up, smothering his offense by pushing him back into the ropes and unleashing fierce combos upstairs.

They both had success and brought different things to Cotto's game but I feel like Steward benefits him most in working off his strengths and focusing on solid boxing fundamentals, especially for a fighter like Cotto who has transformed his style throughout the years. He went from boxer/buncher, to educated brawler after the first loss, to more of boxer later in his career and at a heavier weight class.

(Secretly, 2010-present version of Cotto has become my favorite. He's disciplined and paces himself better than before. Still makes mistakes but adjusts accordingly. His fights are always entertaining for both the diehards and general public. Miguel Cotto is not shot. Has his career been as successful as it otherwise could've been? Probably not. But it's not over yet, which begs the following questions: Is there still the potential for him to become an ATG of our era? Even so, has he solidified his status as a future Hall of Famer? )
Margarito was so frustrated he was yelling "wooooo woooo" it was funny

Funny stuff aside. For what I can see Diaz has more leadership, Cotto seem to follow instructions better than with Stewart

Cotto looked better with Diaz. Faster and more crisp with his punches.

Frustrated in the sense that he wasn't getting off. Cotto lured him in and dropped bombs on Margarito. Comeback my arse, the way Miguel was hitting him in 9, Margarito was getting stopped sooner or later. Even if the fight was in Texas or Colorado.

u gotta respect that. Pedro took cottos mindset to a hole new level, pedro should get alot of credit for this win, i believe cotto will lock this guy up for the rest of his career.
