Cotto was hurt a few times to be honest, and if Marga's could see him(Marga's was fighting blind from rd 2 on)he would have done even more damage then that..But props to Cotto,he won and finally got that monkey off his back...

If he would have fought dumb like the first fight, he would have gotten busted up the same way.

Props to Cotto and that cuban coach tho as I haven't seen a transformation like that in a long time.
Agreed. Although I only watched the fight once, I didn't think there were any perceptible changes to Margarito’s punching power (which was always based on accumulation, anyway). This, contrary to what you might think, is actually commendation for Cotto. I thought it was rather clear Cotto’s strategy and conditioning were the main factors for last week’s win. That’s not to say Margarito is an innocent man or never tampered with his handwraps, it was just Cotto’s line of attack that made the difference. I think his movement was actually improved (or at least utilized better), which I understand is a bold statement, but if you take a look at the first 5 rounds of both fights (which Cotto wins in both fights), you will notice there is a stark contrast in the movement of both fighters (Margarito is also noticeably slower at this stage of his career and at 154). This, in my opinion, is the cause of Cotto not being broken down and for what we see the rest of the night.

Congratulations to Cotto, it was a solid win. If Cotto intends on staying at 154, which I think his body has adjusted to better, of late, I’d like to see a fight with Canelo, Kirkland, or maybe Lara. As for Margarito, I suggest retirement, I don’t see how he can evade persistent swelling of that eye, and that is a threatening handicap that he should avoid for his and his family’s sake. But if he chooses to continue, maybe a fight with Martirosyan makes sense. Some have also suggested a match with Mayorga, that’s a good scrap as well.

So 10oz gloves and Margarito landed less power punches. Lol wow and even with that look how he left Cotto's face.
The eye had nothing to do with it in the first 4 rounds.

He didnt land 29 in any of those rounds like he did in the first fight cause Cotto wouldnt let him.

        • Most of that is brush burns from the punches not swollen and cut like he got his with a glove full of plaster and his eye tearing blood

This is the point I think 4 most who disagree with the stoppage well I know for sure this is my point.

it wasnt about what Cotto did the first half, we had the same fight basically the only difference was the eye injury here, Cotto moved alot more and had made a slight adjustment for this fight.

However Margarito from rounds 4-7 worked enough to the body and placed enough pressure on Miguel to make up for Miguels adjustment and sure he wasnt winning the fight. However at the time of stoppage I had it scored 7 round to 2 in favor of Cotto with 3 rounds left.

Nobody knows what round 10 would have brought, However the last round we got I argue and still stand behind my argument that htere was a shift in the fight in favor of Margarito much like the 9th round of their first fight..
The tenth just like the last time may have likely been just like the last time out, if you look at Margaritos gesture to his corner at the end of the 9th round you will see him smile while slicing the throat with his glove letting Robert know Cotto is spent.

Margarito was not there to win a decision he knew exactly where he was but we also know that Margarito needs rounds to break you down, and he was landing good body shots during those rounds enough in which during the 8th when time was called for the tape comming loose you could see Cotto breathing very heavy.

you could say Cotto won those rounds in terms of Points but Margarito won them in a different way and rounds 10 and 11 and 12 would have shown that and we didnt get that.

if your supporting Margarito you know the 9th and 10th rounds is where its going to be at, and just as it started to surface the Drs called it a night.

I am not taking anything from Cotto he did win, he was winning on points but the stoppage IMO was too quick, Tony was protecting himself answered all the questions correctly when asked by the Dr and was fighting back and actually had his best round at the time of stoppage

I am sorry but as a fan of the sport this was not called for....

              • HBO brainwashes these idiots into believing ***** that isnt happening. They were harping on the whole plaster thing from the beginning of the fight. Then Lampley proclaims it as some great revenge and the Cotto fans follow....

                • Cotto was in a fight, there's no doubt about that. There isn't anyone outside of maybe Floyd who will leave a Margarito fight unmarked.

But he wasn't hurt at any point in the fight, that's reaching for straws.

And the people who say it was the same fight as the first or following the same pattern.......you have GOT to be kidding me.

In the first fight in the 2nd round Margarito had Cotto up against the ropes unleashing combos on him. Through the first half of this fight that didn't happen once. Tony did not put in the kind of work over the first few rounds in this fight like he did in the 1st one. And that work he did in rounds 2-6 in the first fight is WHY Cotto gassed. That wasn't happening in this fight.

Just because one guy is coming forward and the other guy looks to be slowing down a little bit doesn't mean it was the same exact fight as the first one.

I understood there would be some bias, but their commentary was unprofessional - it was disgusting, really.
