The lack of respect ppl show toward these fighters is incredible, and truly sad as boxing fans.

I don't see this a a "sad day" in any way. Vitali's body couldn't manage to stay together and compete against the top-tier guys, despite the top-tier meaning "****" right now. He wasn't able to defend his title, so he walked away, good for him.

Maybe this will be the beginning-of-the-end for all the "Lewis was retired" ****. Let's compare their respective retirements, with a particualr emphasis on their "status" at the time of retirement. Lewis = Champ ...Vitali = Quitter, again.

Simply stated, Vitali gave us nothing as a Champ.

I was no VKlit fan, but I am disappointed by today's announcement in many ways. There are a lot of questions about him, about what might have been, about his potential that will be forever unanswered, and as a boxing fan, that bothers me. I personally think he had the tools do dominate for a while, but now we'll never know.

And frankly, I don't see anyone right now who has the same potential, so it's a little hard for me to get excited about what is a seriously flawed list of contenders. Oh well...

I couldn't agree more, Vitali had a really good career, not even close to hall of fame caliber but he had a darn good career.

Vitali shold be proud of his accomplishments.
