Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao May 5th Done Deal?

Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao May 5th Done Deal?

"I want Floyd for my next fight,” said Manny Pacquiao as quoted by his lawyer Franklin Gacal who said that they were being updated on what discussions had already taken place so far. He called it "Fight of the Century". Last week on the arrival of Manny Pacquiao back to General Santos City it was reported by local media that talks had started and negotiations are being kept private. The mindset of Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather are very much equal at this moment in time, just like two bulls locking horns in the fight for the top spot.

With the ranking changed recently by ESPN placing Floyd Mayweather in the first position, knocking Manny Pacquiao down to second, it only increases the intensity of these negotiations and how much demand there is from the boxing world with the potential to bring gigantic financial opportunities. On this occasion there is not much scrutinizing from the calm Floyd Mayweather, he seems very laid back and relaxed. He wants the deal sealed. He told Fight Hype, "I've been told the boy May 5th is open, I told him May 5th is open, now you know me, to all the fans and everyone, May 5th is the date, sign the contract ! You want a fight lets make it happen.” The drug testing demands were clearly a major issue in the first discussions originally making the fight fall through. During that time he wanted the testing up until closer to the fight than Pacquiao wanted to commit to. Pacquiao claimed that losing blood to close to the fight would affect his performance in the ring. This time Floyd Mayweather said, “You said you a clean athlete and you said you would take the tests and all that, well lets do it."

Floyd Mayweather appeared to be in a refreshed state of mind in these last couple of days and has been reminiscing with Ben Thompson recently and said, "I gave boxing my whole life, you know what? I'm not scared; I'm not scared at all. I'm smart, I don't have to say certain names, look at a lot of legendary fighters that's living, that's dead, and look at the position that they're in because they don't take the random blood and random urine tests, you know?" He went on to talk about his love for his family and how much he has given to this sport and we can say he has had a flawless career. He is very positive on the outcome of having to face Manny Pacquiao on May 5th 2012.

Items that can be bewildering on paper are the percentage of the purse, who enters the ring first and at which date is the cut off point with regards to the drug testing. It is possible that Floyd Mayweather may ask for a greater percentage and we all know that he likes to arrive second in the ring in his boxing matches. He likes creating the drama and he does this well even when he is not boxing when all eyes are on him. Furthermore he has made his points clear with regard to the drug and urine testing, that reportedly Pacquiao has said he agreed to indicate that this deal is close to being done.

On the other hand boxing contracts can be very complicated. Looking back at Pacquiao’s last performance against Marquez, and given the fact that Mayweather looked better than him in his most recent performance, it is fair to say that he may deserve a larger percentage of the gross The market value of this fight will be immense and the figures are likely to be huge, therefore the discussion between the financial organizations can be more lengthy than usual. The fight seems close to being agreed upon, and reportedly the terms are just being tweaked out a bit. All we need is for both Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather to just jump into the ring. With both highly rated promotional companies Top Rank and Goldenboy Promotions involved hopefully they can iron out their differences and give the people what they want to see.

Didn't read, but i'll say this (too long). I don't think they're that into talks now... they're just blowing smoke out their ass. Marquez-Pac numbers aren't even out yet and I know they'll use that to factor in the negotiations.
Since a 1.4 number is roughly out.... we'll see what happens
