As a Mexican, I'm starting to lean towards Cotto....

This Margarito will be stronger because he didn't have to starve himself to make weight. He got severely bruised up by Pac BUT he was never dropped or even wobbled. Same in the Moseley fight where he seemed lethargic from weight drainage more than hurt from Moseley's punches. I'm not sure he lost as much vs Pac as people think. It seems he just swelled up. We'll see.I have e-points and real money on Marg and still think he has the advantage but something inside of me tells me Cotto is becoming more and more the favorite in this fight.
I understand all the pluses and negatives each fighter has but the eye of Marg really concerns me. I don't think the wraps had anything to do with for the record.
Not because I want to give Marg an excuse or think that loading your gloves won't matter but it wasn't a brick that fell out of Marg's gloves like most think. It was the wraps, the color of the wraps and when analyzed what elements were found in them.
Saying that, I think Marg might be a little more shop worn and wonder how badly the vision is in his right eye. Cotto isn't the same fighter either but maybe he can box his way to a UD in this one.
As the fight gets closer, I'm starting to think it will be closer than I first thought.Comment

Great Points of views and reviews..But BOTH fighters are worn out, Not just Margarito with his eye.
Cotto ever since the Marg fight has been getting swelled up pretty quickly and that could be lethal.
I do think Cotto would win this fight by a very comfortable UD. TOO MUCH going for him.Comment

Are you a knowledgeable boxing fan? Im not predicting Cotto's going to win because I want him to win, Im predicting he wins because he's the better fighter. Better skills, better boxing, better defense, you seem blinded by your hate of him. Its obvious you want Cotto to lose, but you seem racist and make Mexicans look bad, just like Margarito. Tell me, hows does Margarito do this again? What strategy? What rounds? Body shots? Head shots? What about his eye? You just post without thinking. I put a real prediction on the master thread, do the same and I wont think you're a F****n r3tard.Comment

My opinion
For cotto to win
he will need to clinch (something new for him)
go to the body to slow marg pressure
and attack the bad eye for an early stoppage
I dont think Cotto has the power to KO Margarito plus Tony has a solid chin to add.
For marg to win
do the same as in the first fight but with better defense (smart pressure) and avoid the above
I still think Margarito is going to stop Cotto in the late rounds but I wont be surprised if it goes the distance.Comment

No doubt they contributed to it...there were some heavy, well placed shots in there...coming straight underneath to right below the solar plexus...those will sap you...What's up man, long time no see. I agree man, that shot in the second to break his nose was a crucial blow.
I do think that his pressure and body punching also wore down Cotto. I feel at 147 Cotto really felt the power of Margarito. At 154 it will be more but again, Marg isn't the same guy and might have more miles on the odometer than Cotto.
As far as who's more downhill...I believe Margarito's definitely the more physically worn of the two...with Cotto being the more mentally worn...
All those years of eating punches for success finally took their toll on Margarito...leading to the cracking of his chin by Mosley and the shattering of his eye by Pacquiao...think late Ray Mancini for a comparison....
Also...I know Margarito says he'll die in there, but I'm not so sure I believe that...what happens if he starts feeling a weird twinge in his socket, and his vision gets a little blurry...I think that WOULD affect him and get in his head...
In the end, I don't have the MOST faith in Cotto...don't particularly like him as a fighter anymore either...(I've missed less than 10 higher profile/big fight predictions in the last 5 years, and Cotto was involved in 2 of 'em!)...but I honestly see a lot of factors working in his favor in this rematch...Comment

I don't think projectxxx is a Mexican but those points you made, it was the same in the first fight too. Cotto has always been the better boxer with speed over Marg but that didn't stop Marg the first time. Are you a knowledgeable boxing fan? I think Marg is all in. I saw an interview with him on Mexican tv and he knows nothing else but boxing. They asked him what his hobby is outside of boxing and he said, "Working out in the boxing gym" hahahaNo doubt they contributed to it...there were some heavy, well placed shots in there...coming straight underneath to right below the solar plexus...those will sap you...

It's his life, he knows nothing more. I think he feels his eye is broken, can't see it won't matter. He is going to continue to fight until the ref stops it because I don't think Robert Garcia has the authority to stop this one.Comment

Oh yes he was. Round 10 was the most brutal beating he took and precisely around the time where the ref should've stepped in (if he planned on it at any moment). Pacquiao hit Margarito with a right hook as he was coming in and he was wobbled. Easy to overlook because he incredible recovery, but Pacquiao wobbled Marg. Took him about 350+ punches to do it, but he did. This Margarito will be stronger because he didn't have to starve himself to make weight. When Margarito was interviewed on a PR radio show and they asked him what he likes to do on his time off or what his hobbies are, he had a difficult time answering. My guess is he didn't wanna' come across as boring because all he would say is, "Go to the movies, stay at home..."I don't think projectxxx is a Mexican but those points you made, it was the same in the first fight too. Cotto has always been the better boxer with speed over Marg but that didn't stop Marg the first time.

So I agree, boxing IS his life. There was also an interview with Todd Duboef (?) before the Margarito NYSAC hearing and he was saying how Margarito and his wife came to them in tears I believe shortly after the Pacquiao fight and whatnot. Margarito was worried away that he wouldn't be able to fight again and that he wouldn't be able to provide money for him and his wife. And Todd said that was when they took him to see an eye specialist for him to get the cataract surgery and whatnot. The way he told that story made me feel sympathy for Margarito. We all love to watch the sport and only see ONE ASPECT of these people and that's when they're fighting, it's easy to forget that they are human just like anybody else and to wish him harm or permanent disability upon them is ignorant immature. May the best man win!Last edited by TintaBoricua; 12-02-2011, 08:43 AM.Comment
