Contrary to popular belief Cotto did nothing wrong strategically in the first fight. He fought masterfully but just got worn down.

I don't see him doing anything different unless his boxing and movement has gotten that much better and 3 years older, at a heavier weight I just don't see that happening.

I just so strongly disagree with this.

Fighting off the ropes from the 2nd round on is a tactical error. I know Margarito's pressure had a hand in that but still, in the 2nd round he wasn't already worn down by Margarito's pressure.

He saw he could score off the ropes and he got comfortable there and paid for it. Cotto was ill-prepared to fight a pressure fighter like Margarito. There is plenty of room for tactical adjustments, he fought far from a perfect fight.

i also disagree- get hit repeatedly with massive shots implies a flaw unless the other guy was just that much better than you.
he backed up a lot with no real idea of where he was going or ability to actually do much with it. NOW you look at what díaz has him doing in training and that would have made all the difference if he'd added a bit of that into the first fight.

Based on training camp footage, he also looks willing to back Margarito up and stand his ground, rotating when he needs to.
i really believe tony used plaster in that 1st fight you just need to look at cottos face when the fight was stopped he looked like he,d been pounded to death !!!

ever since he was caught what has he achieved ????????

Yeah Cotto is sower but still faster than you Margs, not to mention your best days are gone as well. Also, Cotto did NOT fight a great fight first time around; he had exclusively headhunted and never clinched, played on the ropes and couldn't walk Margarito down. Margs doesn't even hit that hard for Cotto not to be able to back him down. Cotto has a lot of changes to make - If he can incorporate them into the fight and keep it in the middle of the ring, hes good.

yeah and after round after round bricks smashed against the skull of the young puerto rican fighter.. and after his face had been repeatedly bashed in for over 30 minutes by the criminal margacheato. he was no longer the same fighter he once was.. that's what he meant to say

IFn I was a betting man I would take Margo and not blink.

After he whops ol Cotto then at 154 I would take Margo to whop ol MOSLEY for REVENGE !!

I can it down with any fighter and tell him what he needs to do. Even work with it in the gym for 8 weeks. But unless he can do it in the ring, it won't matter.

Cotto didn't keep his back on the ropes because he chose to...lol

He was FORCED on the ropes by Marg's incredible pressure. And he was hurt in the second round with a huge shot that broke his nose. Cotto got hit a lot vs Mayorga, do you think Marg is all of a sudden not going to hit him?

He needs to move more than he did the first time, I just don't know if he can at this stage of his career being heavier and older now.

People must not forget that although Manny rearranged Margarito's face, Marg's body shots and uppercuts had Manny in the fetal position in his bed for days.. When the going got tough for Marg in the fight with Pacquiao he put the pressure on, and when the going got tough for Cotto against Marg (and Manny) he folded like a lawn chair.. I like Cotto but stylistically Marg may just have his number, and imo although it did play a factor the plaster wasn't the reason Cotto lost but more of his inability to deal with pressure and avoid the uppercut which was landing flush for Marg. So plaster or not he still gets caught with the same punch...
