Comments Thread For: B-Scene New School Pick Of The Week: Deontay Wilder

Mention the phrase ‘American heavyweight’ and the reaction you’re most likely to receive is either one of disgust or a good old-fashioned belly laugh. It’s been a while there has been an American heavyweight worth rallying around.

He's still a very very raw project at this point. At least 3 years before he can even start to think about fighting a top 10 heavyweight

The writer of this article is nuthugging that KO....it is nowhere near a highlight reel KO. Ive seen far better from the lower weight divisions this year.

Aside from that, i like Deontay and i hope he steps up when he gets to 25-0. I just hope he improves skill wise.

I had no idea this guy had only fought 25 times when he earned the bronze medal at the Olympics. Given the interest around this guy, I wonder why he's not working with a big-name trainer.

It's been a long time since we've seen an American heavyweight with Wilder's athletic gifts. Let's hope his boxing develops.

Against the calibre of meat he's been feeding on since turning pro Wilder could get to 125-0 and still not be in a position to compete with anybody except maybe Malik Scott.

His trainer is Mark Breland - perhaps not the biggest rep as far as true trainers go, but a big name nevertheless. Two-time champ and considered by many as the greatest amateur of all time, just in case the backdrop is needed.

Well, the fact that it literally made the highlight reel - by definition makes it a highlight reel KO.
