I'm no domino expert. But, for example, when I've played with family members in pairs (where you're working with the guy across the table), the game ends when one of you spends all his/her dominoes. When that happens, from what I understand, the losing team then gathers all their leftover dominoes and someone tallies the amount of points the winning team scored by counting the dots on the dominoes. Again, I'm not sure if this is only in pairs, but at least that's how I remember playing it a year ago when I got together with some family members.
