Comments Thread For: Manuel Charr Targets The Klitschkos, Rips Their Choices

Undefeated heavyweight contender Manuel Charr (20-0, 11KOs) is pushing for a shot at the Klitschko brothers. Charr, who fights out of Germany, would like to get a crack at Vitali, the WBC champion, in the near future. If he's able to beat Vitali, he would then target younger brother Wladimir for the WBO/IBO/WBA/IBF titles. Charr is not impressed with the Klitschkos' recent run of opponents. I watched a video of Charr boxing on Youtube only a few days ago. He has a good tight gaurd, but far too little speed to bother either Klitschko. To make matters worse (for him), he doesn't use any straight punches, either (jabs and right-crosses). He just whales away with these roundhouse punches.

I think there are a couple of guys in the division who could trouble the Klitschkos, but he ain't one of them.

Charr isn't even a top 25 fighter yet. He couldn't even convince 3 judges that he beat Zack Page a year ago, and hasn't really stepped up his competition since then. Whether or not Mormeck is a worthy challenger for Wlad, he's at least a top 20 fighter, has a undisputed cruiserweight championship on his resume, and has beaten a top 20 heavyweight or two since moving up, albeit in close fights. I'm not thrilled with the Mormeck fight, but I prefer it to Charr by a long shot. I don't want to knock Charr for his ambition, but he ought to at least try and beat the Dimitrenkos of the world before he deserves a fight with either Klitschko.

He's quite tough and could maybe grind out some decent wins. But he doesn't have the best ability in the world. I've seen some of his earlier fights, but not the Page one. Maybe he was carrying an injury or something? Also, it took him 7 rounds to get rid of Danny Williams. He needs to improve. He has a good record with some half decent wins.

There are at least 30 better heavyweights than Charr.

He's strong and durable, but he's too slow to ever be a real contender.
