Comments Thread For: Canelo Continues His Run in Mexico City, Eyes Big Fights

By Jake Donovan - Whether or not the overall performance from Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez on Saturday night was superior to that of his in-country rival Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is open to debate.

What’s unquestionable is the impressive nature of his latest win. One week after Chavez Jr. dispatched fringe contender Peter Manfredo in five rounds, Alvarez matched him at least in distance, picking up a fifth round knockout of his own in blasting out former welterweight titlist Kermit Cintron on Saturday evening in Mexico City, Mexico.

Both fighters weighed in at the divisional limit of 154 lb. for their HBO-televised main event.

The action began tentatively for both fighters. Cintron offered a jab as a range finder more so than a meaningful weapon, while Alvarez struggled to get going offensively. An occasional shoeshine by the red-headed Mexican was enough to get his countrymen excited, as was a right hand that land upstairs with about a minute to go in the round. [Click Here To Read More]

I feel like he's too strong for both.

      Too young and strong.

Canelo might be a MW in a year.

he can beat them both and make a name off them especially if they make a 24/7
        for the fight

Cotto vs Canelo would be a good fight. Cotto would have to bring his A-game to spank him.

It took 5 rounds for a young stud to ktfo a dead man. Canelo is so great!

Cintron was outclassed and hurt by Molina. He's done as a fighter. Canelo needs to be tested. He's been in cruise control his last two fights. It's hard to see how good he really is with his competition.
