Comments Thread For: Joan Guzman Looking For a February or March Return

Former champion Joan Guzman, who plans to fight at 140 and 147, is planning to return to the ring in February or March of next year. He wants to have at least three to four fights in 2012. After nearly a year, Guzman (31-0, 18KOs) returned to the ring on November 18th in the Dominican Republic and knocked out Florencio Castellano in one round. Guzman picked up the IBF's vacant Caribbean junior welterweight. He wants to fight a big name at 140, but doesn't rule out a possible fight at 147 with a leading champion.

If he can keep his weight under control he could go right to the top at 140. I could see him easily out pointing Maidana.

Watch the brutal uppercut at a little after 12:00 which ended his recent fight.

Guzman is a good fighter. Bradley, Alvarado, Matthyse, Morales, Berto, Rios, Peterson should he win. Not saying any of these fights are likely but I would welcome them all.

He should fight Maidana or Matthysse.

Both very winnable fights for him, that if he wins, he will have people talking about him again as a top guy.

He should fight Mabuza or another bum.

I always thought Guzman was a solid fighter.

Maybe now he'll start getting the recognition he deserves.
