I meant the period before Marquez and Guerrero, i think those fights took alot out of Katsidis, especially the Guerrero. It sounds applicable to any fighter but he had a window of oppertunity when he was fresher to maybe win a title..instead and all respect to him he fought the absolute best (marquez).

On a side note, anyone else interested in a Katsidis vs Malignaggi fight?

Smith did his best and it was a successful partnership.

But a new trainer of some quality could add some nuances to Mike's game.

First thing first: Katsidis has never been a world champion. Period! Second: I've said it before and I'll say it again, Michael needs to retire. The amount of punishment that he takes (even when he wins) is beyond acceptable. The human head is not meant to take repeated blows to the head, much less the amount Katsidis takes. I honestly thought he was going to retire after the beatdown Guerrero gave him (a freaken featherweight for pete's sake!).

Katsidis looked like a spent bullet in his last fight.....he needed to ditch smith....but he also needs a long break.....maybe he'll come back better than he is now if he gives himself some rest(see erik morales...)

i think marquez and guerrero beat the prime off of him though...but if he rests he can reach a level near what he had...

I agree , Smith is a terrible corner man , he is also a terrible trainer because Rocky has been in fights he should never have been in , and he still makes all the same mistakes , a trainer should steadily improve a fighter , Rockys fighting spirit got him as far as it did , Smith was just an Aussie backwoods trainer who was just lucky Rocky walked through the door , Brenden is probably a top bloke but a world class trainer he is not .

Dont know about Goossen , but he needed to get better than Brenden after the Earl fight or at least after Amonsot .

Katsidis is doing all the right moves.

It was a good decision to move on.
