Margarito's eye injury occured in the 4th round against Pacquiao but instead of slowing down, Marg kept coming forward and threw more punches in the following rounds. Pac is a harder puncher than Cotto, if Margarito can take those dynamite straight lefts on a broken eye socket for 8 rounds, why do you think he won't be able to absorb Cotto's punches?

LOL Margarito didn't do **** but block punches with his face the entire Pac fight. Maybe if he would have had that extra peripheral vision he could have avoided a couple of those shots. If he ends up not seeing out of that eye during the Cotto fight he is going to get hurt period.

Very true, I think Margarito stops Cotto in 8 rounds.

the ringside doctor won't allow it, you can bet on that. the nysac isn't going to take any chances.
margarito too damaged = the fight gets stopped. i'm sure the nysac told it to arum very clearly.

Yeah, but at least those blocked punches didn't show up on Compubox's count.

That fight proved Margarito's punch resistance hasn't gone down one bit.

To be honest, the fight would've been stopped under other circumstances. Laurence Cole is a incompetent referee and García is a negligent trainer. I'm sure Margarito would've caught a lot of flack for quitting (from a lot of ignorant posters) but SOMEONE should've stopped the fight by the 10th round or right before the 11th.

You have a point TS, but the thing is that we don't know whether or not Margarito's face will hold up and I've been saying it for MONTHS now...MONTHS. He can TAKE a punch, the question is: "Will his face hold up?" Because if it looks like it's falling apart, the ringside doctors will NOT hesitate to stop it. Margarito knows it's "do or die" so I'm sure he's going rambo on Cotto's ass. This fight should have the same tagline as the Kirkland/Angulo fight...

"It should be fun while it lasts..." [regardless who wins]

That's a funny thing about bones. The actually grow together again, and the point of the break becomes even stronger than it was before the injury..........So if Cotto is going to break Margarito's orbital bone- a big "if"- it will be in a different spot.

Good point, after that licensing drama the commission will definitely tell the ringside doctor to stop it at the first sign of a serious injury. We'll see if Marg swells up as fast as he did against Pac.
