Just looking at Manny's facial expression after the Marquez fight, he knows he lost. Also, he knows he looked bad against an old Mosley. I think he seriously wants to fight Floyd next and then retire. He knows that his best days are behind him. The problem with guys like Manny and others like Roy Jones,Jr is, they depend on their natural abilities and not skills. Manny's best defense was his legs. He's hitting that stage of his career where he's losing speed. That's why its important to know how to block and slip punches. It gets more important on how to throw a jab properly and a hook because the reflexes are not the same. Its important to know how to fight in the pocket because the ability to fight from the outside has deteriated. Its not a coincidence to see Floyd walking his opponents down at this stage. Its because he's intelligent enough to know that he can't dominate a fight using the same style as he did when he was younger. The true great ones learn to adapt. I don't think Manny ever had the true skills to make this adjustment. He was simply a great natural athlete that took advantage of his gifts. The same as Roy. If Manny doesn't call it quits next year, you will see him suffer the same style beatings and KO's as Roy. Lets just hope he is wise enough to realize this, fight Floyd and take that lost like a man, then ride out into the sunset. He has nothing left to prove.Comment
