Chavez Jr is a joke. I guess the sequel really isn't ever as good as the original.

What planet you living in bro? You will take the guy with the most padded record ever in boxing history?
All this barking that Jr. is doing is bcuz he realizes he has met the end of the road. It is either get embarrassed by Martinez or try to fight a smaller guy. What a b!tch.Comment

No, you wouldn't want to give Canelo an advantage when you can weigh in at 160 and at fight night weigh as much as a cruiser weight at 180
If Canelo fights Chavez Canelo would be giving up 15 pounds in the fight, the same would apply for Sergio Martinez who weighs 165 on fight night.
Chavez is a very big middle weight. His size is his best weapon. Manfredo, Zbik, and eveyone he's faced at 160 looked like they were 2-3 weight classes below him.
CHavez has had an advantage in weight in every single fight he's been involved in.
Kind of hypocritical Mr. Chavez.Comment

Martinez was stripped because HBO wouldn't aprrove of a fight with Zbik, yet Chavez Jr. fought him on HBO for the belt? WTF?
Kirkland won a WBC eliminator to fight for Canelo's belt, yet it seems like Golden Boy isn't interested in having him fight Canleo? You have got to love boxing lol.Comment

If Chavez jr fought Martinez, he would get worked over, ko style before the fight reached 7 rounds. I think that Canelo would beat Chavez jr. as well both at 156 and 160 but Martinez would pick him to pieces with counter shots and jabs to the point where the fight might just get stopped.......at least he'll be able to hit Canelo a few times along the way.Comment

true and on that same point, would Canelo fight Martinez at 156? Doubt it....neither should be defended in terms of Martinez conversations. BUT that's not what the article is about. 156 is ridiculous, if they (GB, Team Canelo) really want to make the fight happen (clearly they don't, but hypothetically...) moving UP in weight is much easier than to move down, 158, in my opinion, is a fair concession. But that's only if you choose to look at the 'negotiations,' that aside, Canelo has every right to deny and so does Jr as they are a weight class apart.Comment

WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has refused to entertain Saul "Canleo" Alvarez's request for a catch-weight of 156-pounds. Alvarez's promoter, Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya, will only make the fight if Chavez agrees to a catch-weight of 156.
