Skill-wise, I'd go with Marquez. The problem is that it's also about size and punching power. Odds are, Cotto is good enough with his timing and his ability to take the occasional counter-punch, while managing to dish out more than Marquez is willing to throw. Marquez isn't completely out-classed, but he gets decisioned in relatively convincing fashion.

Anyway, this would be a very good fight with a high level of technique. I can also see the promotion being very clean as both guys are very respectful and serious.
Yea I have no doubt both Cotto and Marquez respect each other a lot.

The KD was not counted but instead the ref penalized him that round. Competitive fight + KD = MAB win.

The Kd wasn't counted because Barrera resorted to hitting Marquez clearly while he was down.

              That's his fault.

The KD wouldn't of made a difference in the end. Marquez was a clear winner. He got the better of Barrera the whole night.

Marquez outboxes Cotto. I don't know why people think Cotto beats Marquez. Pacquiao is much faster than Cotto, can fight with both hands, hits harder and has equal boxing skill and he still arguably lost to Marquez. Cotto is NOT bigger than Marquez (if they fought at 145) because he is only 5'7 and has a 67 inch reach, same measurements as Marquez. Cotto also likes to be the aggressor which plays into Marquez's strengths as a counter puncher.

You guys put way too much emphasis on size and strength when much more factors come into play. The fact that Cotto is flat footed and is only really effective with his left hand makes this a relatively easy fight for Marquez. I'm sorry but its Marquez by decision.

Juan Manuel Marquez would be the best fighter Cotto had faced if that fight happened. Yes, better than Pacquiao.

Marquez on the other hand, has already fought a couple of fighters who are better than Cotto: Mayweather and Pacquiao, and he went 48 rounds with them from 126-144, suffering 5 knock-downs in total...no knock outs. Yeah styles make fights, and Mayweather and Pacquiao's styles are superior to Cotto's.

Also, Barrera is a better fighter than Cotto. That's already 3 fighters that Marquez has fought that are better than Cotto.

People think highly of Cotto for whatever reason. Fact is he lost his two biggest fights and the Mosley fight was a Draw IMO. He's a GOOD fighter, who beat other GOOD fighters. Cotto is not great, boarderline HOFer. Marquez is a sure HOF'er and an All Time GREAT.
