Saul Alvarez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. at 158???

I really hope this fight happens in March/April 2012, and I have a strong feeling it will. I doubt Golden Boy will want to throw Alvarez into a fight with Kirkland, Lara, or Cotto next, and there's no way that Top Rank puts Chavez Jr. in with Martinez next as well.

If I were Alvarez, I would jump all over this oppurtunity. He's already a massive star in Mexico, as well a big star in the US, and a win over Chavez would only boost his profile that much more. Alvarez-Chavez Jr. would be a pretty damn big PPV fight, and I can't see any real reason why Alvarez wouldn't take this fight. Chavez can punch and trade well, but his boxing skills are average, and he gets tagged a lot, even by an average fighter like Manfredo and an alright fighter like Zbik. Alvarez should jump all over this, as he would most likely come out on top over Chavez. It would finally allow us as boxing fans to move on from one of these guys, and put our stock into the next big Mexican fighter.

Also, I can't see a reason why Chavez wouldn't take this fight as well. He sure seems to want nothing to do with Sergio Martinez, the best MW in the world, so his next big fight would be with Alvarez. Either that, or he vacates his WBC MW title, and than h e's left fighting Rubio, Quillin (who would beat Julio), etc. Plus, there's a decent chance that Chavez could catch Alvarez and knock him out, or could over power Alvarez throughout the fight and win. I'd only favor Alvarez 60-40 in the fight, not by a landslide.

Call me crazy but I think Julio takes this one. He's been improving with every fight, and seems like he always moves up in class just enough to eke out the win. I see him taking a lot of not-so-deserved flak on this forum (and everywhere else)... Sure he's not the best MW in the world by a long shot, but he's not exactly a bum either.

Julio does get hit quite a bit and could play better defense, but the kid has an iron chin and doesn't seem to mind eating a bit leather. I've never seen him hurt in any fight, not even close.

He takes a lot of s**t on this forum because he seemed to become a star without really any big fights, pretty much because of who his father is. I don't think he's the best MW in the world, but he's still good. He's not great, not even really good, but he can trade with people, has power, and seems to have a good chin, and comes to fight.

Martinez is far above anyone else in the MW division.

Besides him....Pirog, Macklin, Lee, Sturm, Quillin, Rubio....Chavez fits right in there with them.

For the record, theys hould strip Chris John and Felix Sturm of their titles, those guys never fight out of their home country, therefore hardly ever fight anyone unless they are willing to go to Germany or Indonesia. Oh, and Sturm lost to Macklin anyways.

Perhaps I'm being a little sadistic but I'd enjoy Martinez/Chavez if nothing else for checking out how good Junior's chin really is...
