We NEED a NATIONAL ATHLETIC COMMISSION!

Regardless if it is Margarito, Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather, or the lowest bum on the totem pole, IF A FIGHTER IS NOT LICENSED IN ONE STATE, HE SHOULD NOT BE LICENSED ANYWHERE IN THE REST OF THE COUNTRY.

Lets just say, in Margarito's case, why is his eye too messed up to fight in New York, but is fine enough to fight in Texas, Colorado, or what ever that other state he is licensed in?

This is why boxing is in the position its in. Whether its something like this, or judging fights.

You're wrong. States have laws unique to themselves and that's how it should be. The nonsense with Margarito is the fault of those that chose the state without understanding the conflict of the eye. It should be done before the fight. It shows a lack of competence on their part. Arum.

      Won't ever happen.

Most states don't even have an athletic commission now you want there to be a federal athletic commission? Come on...

Also, the idea that replacing one government agency with a larger government agency would make any thing better is just dumb.

I agree, but It's a lot like other issues too. Certain laws and punishments applicable to only certain States in the U.S.

I guess if a State can decide if it wants the death penalty, it can decide to license a boxer over another State.

That's the way the U.S. rolls.

New York doesn't have one of the best eye hospitals in the US for no reason. They know why they're not letting Margarito fight.

If the fight happens, it would make Arum look bad. I know he's greedy, but why put your own fighters health at risk just to make a dollar? Is Arum really that greedy? The idiot-filled corner of Margarito did not stop the Pac fight when it was obvious Margarito needed medical help. When do you draw a line to the "Mexican warrior" mentality, which is amazingly ******?

That's why Ortiz got to live another [PAY] day, when he quit half way through against Maidana...look how he was rewarded, probably made a total of $5mill with the Floyd fight and is still a top fighter now...resurrected his career with a big win against Berto, becoming WBC champion at 147, and now has another possible multi-million dollar pay day lined up against Berto.

Whatever. Arum is getting away with murder by letting Margarito continue to fight. But then again Arum gets away with a lot of things.

New York, New Jersey and Nevada have the strictest and most rigid boxing commissions in the U.S. I remember hw boxer Joe Mesi could not secure a fight in New York (his home state) because he suffered a brain bleed after the Jirov fight. He was at one point petitioning then governor Elliot Spitzer to help persuade the commission to let him fight. He never got licensed there and he eventually called it a career. However, he was able to fight in other states - West ******ia and maybe Texas...

Anyhow, I think this example illustrates the TS point - there should be some uniformity in how the States commission the sport of boxing...

Arum is cashing in on a boxer who has done NOTHING in 3 years, first with the Pac fight and now this fight. MArg isnt some young prospect, hes at the end of his career.
