wouldnt it be better 2 have it in atlantic city or mashantucket (berto/ortiz fight) as both of these places are within 150 miles of new york city which is a couple of hours drive/train ride

It's true and ****ed up. Here's a press release I got a month ago or so, pretty sure it was posted on here too:

The two premier boxing promoters in the Chicagoland area say they are fed up with Illinois commission's recent spate of rules changes that, they say, make it much more difficult to promote an event in the state.

Bobby Hitz, Founder of Hitz Boxing and Domenic Pesoli, President of 8 Count Productions, say they will meet together with state representatives this week with a list of grievances about the state's latest round of rule changes.

Already having recently increased their basic fees (some as high as 1000% or more), yesterday (November 1) Rafael Caro II, Public Service Administrator for the Illinois State Athletic Commission notified all licensed promoters of the changes, including the following (paraphrased):

There will be absolutely no deductions done for the Boxers/Contestants at any weigh-in and/or event.

Ringside physicians will not be doing physicals for any contestants... They must get physicals done by a MD or DO only, prior to the weigh-in.

ALL Boxers/Contestants must be licensed prior to the weigh-in.

(Boxers) are to pay all fees by check or money order only whenever they submit their application. Any seconds (cornermen) can get licensed no later than the weigh-in (no one will be allowed to license the day of event).

It is imperative and your sole responsibility to inform all professional boxers/contestants of these new changes. No exceptions will be given.

          1. Ringside Physicians in Illinois don't do physicals

This sounds crazy, but the ISAC changed its rules recently and its ****. You have to be licensed before the fight happens, but I'm sure Margarito's doctor would say its okay for him to fight and the ISAC would license him rather than the NYASC doing its physical and making sure Margarito could fight.

The rule changes that Illinois have made recently are awful, but it could work in this case.

          2. Chicago has a large Puerto Rican-Mexican base

They could easily fill up the UC. Plus with Wolak fighting on the undercard, Polish people will come out to support their fighter as well. Adamek filled up the United Center and Andrezj Fonfara, a local fighter from around here, draws pretty good attendance as well for fighting bums.

There's definitely a market here and it should be considered.

          3. The United Center has nothing going on December 3rd

There's a Blackhawks game the night before, but thanks to the NBA lockout, the United Center is free that day.

I think it's something that should be considered anyway. It probably won't though.

(Here are the rule changes that the Illinois State Atheltic Commission made if anyone is interested:

There will be absolutely no deductions done for the Boxers/Contestants at any weigh-in and/or event.

atlantic city boardwalk hall would be a better back up venue IMO but this place looks decent and big enough i reckon it should be taken into account

If the fight does happen in Chitown, steal the remains of Margarito's eye for me, and I'll deposit $500 into your PayPal account.
