Comments Thread For: Merchant on Mayweather-Pacquiao, The Marquez Equation

In the first part of my interview with HBO color analyst Larry Merchant, he revealed why Manny Pacquiao may gotten the decision over Juan Manuel Marquez this past weekend in their third encounter in Las Vegas. Pacquiao-Marquez III was another hotly-contested affair that saw Marquez perform much better than expected, and Merchant pointed out that the high expectations for Pacquiao beforehand may have influenced how people viewed the match. Mayweather beats Pac dominantly. Almost winning every round and possibly stopping Pac by round 8.

Merchant will always do his best to defend Manny as much as possible.... and he will bend over backwards and reach for straws to criticize Floyd. His opinions are worthless.

Manny's problem in his last 2 fights has been based on his opponents turning him... and in Marquez's case, turning him and countering him. So the reason he's not looking good everytime as Merchant spoke of is because he's not fighting a mummy. If you can only look good against straight forward fighters with poor defense (and weight drained or damaged goods in some cases) then you're a hype job.. not an all time great. Period.

hbo wont give jmm any credit?

It was pacquiao's distractions now, or because we're "used" to seeing manny win impressively that the boxing lesson he got wasn't because of jmm?......... Really merchant?

Horse****, just give jmm his credit, the mayweather fight is still there for you guys to make plenty of $$$$$$$. These guys are scared ****less of loosing out millions on a big mayweather/pacquiao payday.

Everyone can see right through it just stop this **** its embarrassing for the sport.

Millions of people saw the fight, they can't all be wrong.

            Incredible.

Larry Merchant should get fired. Get Mike Tyson in for some EXPERT commentary.

Hbo Crew can't say anything positive about Marquez or even say they thought Marquez won because they would be fired. HBO is disgusting.

He's basically saying that mayweather is the favorite and that he would beat pacroid..don't forget *******s that's a fellow ******* saying that

but manny fighting margarito and cotto means nothing...both fighters lost BIG before and both fighters came in at a catch weight and plus cotto had no proper coach in the corner that night...if pac fought the cotto who beat mosley at a good weight then he deserved some respect and if he beat margarito after marga beat cotto then that deserves respect too...he was waiting for both fighters to become damaged goods...that's all he knows..fight damaged goods at catch weight...pac is a cheating cowardly bum.

manny pacquiao, the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world...

no fighter will stand against him toe-to-toe...

ask delahoya, mosley, cotto and margarito, clottey...and cry-baby marquez...

marquez would have been knocked out had he engaged with pacman...
