Boxing needs to do more, a lot of world champ, great fighters end up on hard times.

There needs to be a boxer's union.

Boxing is a brutal sport inside and outside the ring.

Yes it does suck and is sad but you people are ridiculous with this crap. Its no ones fault but his, boxers make more money that 99 percent of the US population and they end up broke. Its no ones fault but theres, and its not boxings, or mine, or the governments responsability to take care of anyone who blew hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars. If I cant pay my house note, there is no one on here telling me how sad it is. Its my fault, no one elses and its that kind of thinking that gets the country into the problems we face today.

While I agree with the 2 above posters that ultimately its the fighters fault for blowing thru there money and that's just the bottom line, that doesn't mean I don't lack sympathy for this guy and others like him.

Also you have to recognize people who come from comfortable circumstances have a tendancy to manage money better. A lot of these guys come from the slum and never had money there whole lives, than overnight they become millionaires. They blow money to make up for lost time and hard times.

Boxing always has been and always will be the sport of the ******. From pacquio to duran to tyson all these guys are from the the worst of circumstances there respective nations have to offer, and had a very hard and traumatic life before boxing. The sad reality is the majority of them are going to blow every dime. That's not even taking into account once they make it they now become the entire support system for there whole extended family.

I wouldn't put it that bluntly. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Lockridge made more than enough money during his days, but to say boxers (in general) make a lot of money is stretching it.

You get paid from fight to fight. There is no annual or consistent salary in this occupation. Sure, you'll make money if you're signed to a big-time promoter like GBP or TR, or even Dibella or Shaw but otherwise, boxing to the average person is nothing more than a part-time job that is inconsistent and unreliable unless you're in the "big leagues" (Bradley, Malignaggi, Dawson)...and I mentioned those fighters so as to not go overboard and mention the ones that make INORDINATE amounts of money. Being on Malignaggi's level alone I'm sure gets you several thousands [of dollars], but not everyone gets there or has at least a journeyman status, because the fact is boxing is a brutal sport that a lot of people will not find it worth the time, effort, or pain required to get money unless you bring serious talent to the table.
