here are the undue advantage of an aggressor(Manny) to that of thick face(shameless) backward moving fighter like Marquez...

1. thick face(shameless like a cheater) fighter like Marquez had the advantage of multiplying the force of his punches(counterpunches etc)

a. his sudden stop and punch or counterpunch(from a misplaced or out of the position lead or jabs of the aggressor) is in direct collision with the head and the body of the aggressor...that means his momentum plus the momentum of the aggressor will add-up to make that punch stronger compared to the punch thrown by the aggressor if it connects...! because the aggressor's punches will travel longer because of that backward motion of a defensive minded thick face(shameless) Marquez...that means if it connects the force will dissipate or absorbed by the distance of travel

2. thick face(shameless) Marquez will be able to anticipate the coming of a punch or his target because there's no way that it will come from sideways but right directly in front of him...you see Marquez is trying to distance himself considerably.... so to be able to initiate the fight the aggressor would close the distance immediately as much as he can...and he can closed that gap by HEADING STRAIGHT to thick face Marquez and not delivering it sideways because nobody could straighten their legs and body and arms longer than if they do it laterally...could you?

simply put Marquez is out of range or not in the punching circle...and keeps it doing till the last round...

He got the upper hand to look for mistakes of an aggressor and capitalize on it(because the aggressor can't do as much because he's really at the disadvantage)

a. if the punch of the aggressor is misplaced that left an opening to sneak a counter.
b. if the lead shot is slow or weak the passive fighter will just ward it off or take it and put a combination in return

besides the forward momentum of the aggressor is hard to control if he tried to catch-up the fast pace backward motion...that means maneuverability too is difficult to achieved especially when the aggressor tried to duck or dodge those punches hurled against him.
