One of my best and oldest friends who I played high school football with also boxed, at a gym in the Beverly neighborhood of Chicago on the southwest side, same neighborhood my dad grew up in for the most part actually. Anyway he had a very similar knee injury to the one Vitali has, torn ligaments in the knee, required surgery. This guy was a great athlete and this injury put an all together end to both his boxing and football careers respectively.
He was only like 16 but he was sparring heavyweights at the gym and he was good football player for a very respectable program, not as good as me, but good.

I remember once in practice, we were scrimaging. I was playing wide out. He was playing defensive end. The play was a pass to me out in the flat, pressure got to teh quarterback and he scrabmled to the outside on a sweep. He was running full momentum toward the quarterback in pursuit from behind. This is maybe one of my best friends. I was running toward him at full momentum as he was pursuing the quarterback. He didn't see me at all, I drove my helmut straight into his chin and laid a cracking hit on him in full momentum. He had a concusion from that. We really went hard on each other. This guy was tough, but the knee injury killed him.

Vitali leaving the HW picture should be great for that division. I can't understand how someone can be propped for doin nothing. I don't care how much potential you have, or if you have Ray Robinson like ability, if you don't fight you don't deserve a thing in this sport. Vitali is too inactive and as the person seen as THE champ in that division he hasn't done much but disgrace himself and that division with what he's done. Give the title to someone who will defend it and try to unify.

        Let's add this all up.

Lennox beats Vitali, then retires. So Vitali is the "real champ" because he beats Corrie Sanders? Corrie who? I don't think so. We don't have a heavyweight champion that is a concensus champion. We don't even have a WBC champion that wants to fight.

          Ok, listen up people....

If the injury is REAL....or fake...

This is still good for boxing, the heavyweight champion of the world needs to be ACTIVE...if he's injured, then we shouldn't have to wait n ****..

This ain't ****in Russia or Ukraine or Belarus!
          We want fights!

He comes from some way different country !

In America, it don't work like that...we want fights!

            So..

Thats a crux against him? Being from Ukraine?

Your saying that the reason he is inactive is not because of injury but that he hails from Ukraine? Thats really something you got there.

This is BAD for boxing. Toney's going to have to basically sign his life to Don King. Don King is a plague to boxing, the only good thing he's ever done in his garbage promoting was Zaire. He's a really slippery character and I dont trust him. if anybody has helped make the sport a farce, it also been Don King. Look at the way he has treated his fighters. It’s unconscionable making people sign blank contracts and manipulating the rankings.

I can't stand Don King and if he has all 4 belts, the HW Division is ruined.

              Sorry about my rant .
