When is it time to find out if Canelo is the real deal?

I'm tired of watching him fight bums. Baldomir, Hatton, Gomez, common man seriously! I know he's young but he needs to step up at some point. I want to see him fight a Lara, Kirkland, Molina, etc. I want to see if this guy is for real or not...

They're both unproven. Both of them are nothing but hype at this point. FWIW, I think Alvarez would beat JCC Jr.

I wanted to see Canelo-Kirkland sometime early next year, apparently Molina-Kirkland is in the works tho, so hopefully Canelo-Angulo can be made.

I'm ready to see him step up too, I've been saying Canelo-P.Williams would've been good instead of Cintron, but everyone called me crazy, I think Canelo would BLAST Williams outta there.

age is a sad excuse if you ask me, Wilfredo Benitez fought Cervantes at 17 years old goddamnit

I know he is the exception to the rule, but come on, they gave the kid a belt, now it's time to act like a champion and fight the best out there

I do believe they intend to match him with a top juniormiddle after Cintron, but I may be wrong

He's not for real. Slow footed, relies solely on his power. Very talented, but he is not P4P.

He better be focused on beating Cintron. This could be an upset.

this a help find somethin out

i say kirkland fight molina, cause molina deserves a big fight 4 upsetting cintron if canelo beats cintron then put him n there wit paul williams...paul might of fell off a lil but he deserves as well hbo gave paul no breaks as they made him fight tough challenge after tough challenge where top rank fighters fight bull**** people...and if kirkland beat molina let him fight k-9 4 the title...then put canelo vs kirkland it will be big wit belts

Hardly, both fought an argentinean called Principito Cuello, and while Jr struggled during 12 rounds, Canelo destroyed him in 3 rounds. And that being a smaller guy than Jr, so I think there is a wide gap between them.

Baldomir was the worst, in my opinion. He was relevant way back in 06', mainly b ecause he had an upset win over a prime Zab Judah, hence why he got the Mayweather fight.

After Cintron, who is clearly past his prime, they should make Alvarez-Chavez Jr in March/April 2012. If Alvarez wins there, they should match him with James Kirkland, especially if Kirkland grabs a belt over Bundrage. Alvarez-Kirkland would be a big summer fight, and out either guy in the drivers seat at 154.

If Alvarez were to beat both Chavez Jr and Kirkland, it would be time to match him with Cotto or Lara. If he actually made it through all those fights in 2012, which probably won't even happen, he would then jump to Middleweight most likely, or dare I say it....fight Floyd Mayweather.

If Alvarez beat Chavez Jr, Kirkland, Cotto, tell me you wouldn't want to see a Mayweather-Alvarez fight at 154 in early 2013 or something??? That would be big. I think Alvarez has a shot at being a great fighter, and he adjusted well against Gomez once he faced some adversity (although Gomez is not that good at all). Chavez Jr is a punk, no skills. He's a hard puncher, with little skills, and knows he will get KO'd by Sergio in 7-8 rounds. Hence why Bob Arum wants to make the Alvarez-Chavez Jr fight and cash out big on the PPV buys.

Either way, in 2012, Alvarez needs to step up. I am tired of people saying "he's young, take his time, etc". Ali was fighting a latter prime Sonny Liston, the world beater at the time and viewed as the Tyson of the 60's, at age 22 and dominated him. granted, Ali in his prime was possibly the greatest fighter we've ever seen, at least at Heavyweight, but Alvarez needs to step up in 2012. it's time.
