Bob Arum can bullsh$t main stream sports fans. But he can not bullsh#t the boxing public. The conditions for the Mayweather fight have never been better. There is plenty of time to make the fight, and to subsequently promote it. As many of my fellow fans have already pointed out, Arum is either using this to level the field at the table, or he is simply ducking Floyd. It's classic Arum. People talk about random blood testing as the biggest obstacle, no way. Its' Bob Arum. What Bob will most likely do next is make Floyd an offer, or send Floyd a counter offer, that Floyd will not accept in a million years. Bob will then walk away from negociations and declare " I do know whats wrong with Floyd. I guess he doesn't want the fight". He will then turn around and match Manny with Bradley, or Jones, or perhaps JMM again. I am calling it now. He will carry on Mayweather talks in bad faith, walk away, and put Manny in the ring with someone else May 12th. Book it. I can not blame him though. Floyd would do more then simply make Manny look human. He would tear him to shreds. All of this hoopla and drama going on right now is because a fighter simply stayed with Manny. Whats everyone going to do when Manny gets wrecked? Longer arms, relative speed, caution, advanced counter-punching intelligence, discipline, and very underrated strength. Manny does not have the boxing lexicon to cooperate with those intangibles. If Floyd were a puncher, mabye. But he is not, he is the opposite. Look what Juan did last night. Mayweather is JMM, but exponentially amplified. In lames terms, Floyd is JMM on steroids no pun intended. Any reasonable fight freak had to admit this fact
Stop the emotional comments and analyze the fight and its result based on facts. Everyone was expecting a blowout and a beatdown Hatton-style so anything short of that will be a big disappointment. This was what happened. Pacquiao was a victim of his own success that's why everyone, including Manny himself, was disappointed. This did not mean that Marquez won because he did not.
Anyone who's saying Marquez CLEARLY won the fight or that he was ROBBED of a victory is either delusional or being emotional that Manny did not beat him down badly.
Neither man was able to hurt the other significantly. Most rounds were very tight and could have gone either way SO those who are saying it's a clear win for Marquez OR the Marquez dominated the fight are just PLAIN ******. Marquez dominated the fight? Come on people, he did not even hurt Manny.
Facts are facts. Here are the proofs that Manny won the fight.
1. NUMBER OF PUNCHES LANDED: Manny threw more and landed more punches. Since no one landed a big shot enough to hurt the other, this became an amateur-kind-of-fight where it needed to be scored on the number of punches connected.
2. AGGRESSION: Manny was the aggressor all night. Look at the fight again. Manny was chasing Marquez all night as Marquez was backpedalling throughout the fight. If Manny did not attack there would have been no fight.
3. RING GENERALSHIP: Manny controlled the tempo. The fight was dictated by Manny. He was moving and using his footwork while Marquez was waiting. Those who are saying that marquez gave Manny a boxing clinic are just plain dumb. What clinic? Manny dictated the fight. He made it exciting when he wanted to. He pressed the actions all night. He countered Marquez when he needed to. Marquez was so hesitant to even come forward.
4. CHAMPION vs CHALLENGER: The challenger needs to take the belt. It should not be handed out. Marquez did not do enough to take the belt. If this alone was the basis of scoring a tight round, it should have been 10:2 rounds in favor of Pacquiao.
5. CHAMPIONSHIP ROUNDS: Marquez did not do jack in the later rounds. Both did not land anything of significant in the championship rounds but at least Manny was pressing the action and was trying to have something happen. What did Marquez do ? - NOTHING. If Manny did what Marquez did in those rounds, they would have done dancing with the stars.
6. THE FACE: Look at their faces and tell me that "Marquez dominated the fight". Bullcrap! Marquez had far worse damage in his face.
7. HBO CREW and the CROWD: They were on the ball. Ledderman had it for Manny by 4 points. This is not to say they were 100% accurate. This simply means that Marquez did not dominate the fight and was not robbed of a victory. The crowd who were booing were mostly Mexicans. What do you expect? This was the closest a Mexican came close to winning in a long time against Manny.
I have more to say but again the reason why we were disappointed was because we are used to seeing Manny dominate big guys. Manny was a victim of his own success - plain and simple- and all of us fell into that trap.
I just see this comments nearly true.
I know you haters will always hate no matter what!
Final thoughts, Pacs performance will help boost a lot for a Mayweather fight. Lets see if he steps up now. I hope so! I wanna see who really is the better fighter between floyd and Pac.
To all Boxing Fans: Kindly watch the replay and review it without emotions attached to any of the fighter. Check who's connected more with clear harder shots.
Roach to Manny towards the end of the fight:
"YOU NEED A KO TO WIN"
Manny threw more but landed more glancing punches because Marquez' defense was superior. Marquez landed more head snapping punches. As for "Marquez not doing nothing in the later rounds", Beristain told him he was winning( and Roach agreed with him) so he was trying to avoid a lucky punch by Pacroid. Lastly, Marquez neutralized Manny's speed and power and made the fight more suited to his liking--a more technical fight. Marquez won.

The fanboys are gonna say, "Roach did that to motivate his fighters. Roach does that all the time. Where are my Smurfs and Angry Birds Dolls?"

I'm new to this and don't know how to highlight texts and add images and such, but I agree that it was smart for Marquez to stay away from Pacquiao's power in the later rounds. He knew that even if he won 11 of 12 rounds but got knocked down once, there would be no way in hell he could win by points. I wish he would've done more in the 11th and 12th but I honestly thought he had a round or two to spare. When they announced the results, I was like "OH ****!" when the first judge said it was a draw. I was shocked that a judge actually didn't think Pacquiao did enough to win being that the burden of proof is on Marquez. But then when I heard the 116-112 score, I knew that Pacquiao had won because there's no way they would score it that wide for Marquez. For the record, I had three friends over my house including my friend's Filipina girlfriend. I was the only won rooting for Marquez and at the end of the night we were all saying bull****!
please, no more fights! this one, objectively, was a big disappointment -- Manny was way too 'strategic' to make this a compelling action fight -- JMM not capable at this point of taking full advantage of Manny's ineffective, inactive bobblehead doll imintation for much of the fight....

If you want to go by compubox then JMM won the first two fights. However, the fight is scored on a ten-point must system, not compubox.
2. AGGRESSION: Manny was the aggressor all night. Look at the fight again. Manny was chasing Marquez all night as Marquez was backpedalling throughout the fight. If Manny did not attack there would have been no fight.
Fights are scored on effective aggression, Manny was not an effective aggressor.
Wrong. JMM dictated the tempo, Manny was fighting JMM's fight.
4. CHAMPION vs CHALLENGER: The challenger needs to take the belt. It should not be handed out. Marquez did not do enough to take the belt. If this alone was the basis of scoring a tight round, it should have been 10:2 rounds in favor of Pacquiao.
Damn, 10-2 rds. for Pacquiao?

If JMM didn't do jack, neither did Pac. I still saw JMM landing the cleaner, harder shots.
6. THE FACE: Look at their faces and tell me that "Marquez dominated the fight". Bullcrap! Marquez had far worse damage in his face.
Since when are marks on a fighter's face used as judging criteria
7. HBO CREW and the CROWD: They were on the ball. Ledderman had it for Manny by 4 points. This is not to say they were 100% accurate. Wrong again. The HBO team have been Pacquiao cheerleaders for a while now. While Marquez landed the cleaner, stronger shots, Lampley and Co. were talking about Pacquiao.
As far as the crowd being mostly Mexican, can you show something official to back that claim? During his interview, Pacquiao estimated half the crowd was Filipino. If this is true, the Filipino half was sure quiet while "the Mexicans were booing." I'd say maybe some of the Filipino half joined in the boos if the crowd was 50/50.
I have more to say but again the reason why we were disappointed was because we are used to seeing Manny dominate big guys. Manny was a victim of his own success - plain and simple- and all of us fell into that trap.
Nah, it just shows that Manny's victories since Hatton have been overhyped.

It was still a close match, but even if you think Pac pulled it off (10-2 Pacquiao is ridiculous), Marquez has put an end to the "Pacquiao is invincible" myth. Team Pac were beginning to believe their own hype when they said Pac would put Marquez away within 6 (Ariza said posssibly round 1) and Marquez made them eat their words. Had Pacquiao won 10-2, Roach would not be saying Marquez deserves a rematch.
But to answer your comment, I think the result of this fight makes Pacquiao/Mayweather less likely. The last thing Team Pac want to do now is put Pacquiao in there with Mayweather, which is why Arum is calling for Pac/JMM IV in May.
