Comments Thread For: Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez: Pre-Report Card

They waited too long to do it twice, but the wait was still worth it. Will the same be said after they square off for the third time? The consensus appears to be no. The fight still hasn’t happened. They have time to prove the consensus wrong. At most, they will get a scheduled twelve rounds. Given the intensity of this rivalry in the twenty-four rounds already contested, action until the final bell, no matter the round the end comes, seems assured. It’s a bit strange. This fight would have been feverishly anticipated once upon a time and, while it still is likely to do monster numbers at the box office, the buzz is small. There are good reasons. While there is a catchweight (144 and both came in under) for the contest, it is above 140 lbs., a Welterweight bout. Marquez, a once great Featherweight and still very good Lightweight, has competed this high on the scale once before. [Click Here To Read More]

Stop mentioning the age like if it matters...It's not the age but the weight where the issue lies.

It doesn't matter how old he is...He could be 18, 28, 38 or, 48...The weight is what F'ing matters.

Bernard Hopkins at 38 was at his if not close to his prime still.

At 28 Morales was already Past prime.

It's not the age...It's the weight man.

And, he still the best LW out there right now...If this fight was at 135 tomorrow it would be an awesome fight. Even if JMM is 38 yrs old, again still the best LW out there. Sadly he's not a WW. His fighting a weight-class that he doesn't belong in...That's the main problem here. Not that he's 38.

And, no he didn't show his age in his last fights...His last 2 fights ended in KO's, one of it first round against a bum(didn't even have time to show his age) and the other one against the #1 rank LW.

What he showed is that he has slipped....Not his age. There is a difference

Amir Kahn : “Marquez looks too big, he looks very heavy upper body and that’s going to work against him because he’s more of a counter fighter and a guy who’s quick and catches you in between shots. But for this fight Marquez has been training to put pressure on Manny and push him back but that’ll work against him because he’s not used to that style and he’s way too big for his size.Since their last two fights I think Marquez has aged a lot more than Manny, he was outboxed by Mayweather, and Manny will probably be the guy to knock him out — I think this could be one of his last paydays. I’ve been watching Manny in training and he is looking really good so I don’t think he has anything to worry about” he said.

He might not be in his prime. But, is he not an elite fighter? Is he not the best LW right now?

It's not the age that makes this fight ridiculous. It's the weight that makes this garbage.
