I agree. . . He's a solid boxer - sound technique, but he doesn't have that extra little bit to take him to the next level. . . speed, power, or explosiveness. . .

too easy to hit. . . i don't see him beating any of the lightweight champions TBH. . . Demarco, Burns, Vazquez and Rios all beat him I think. . .

We'll see what will happen tonight, then we'll see if he is a hype job; b/c most of his past fights hints to him being a legitimate contender. Until he proves himself tonight, your title of "hype-job" will stay. But if he wins, and wins convincingly - Rios is next!!!

He hasn't really fought anybody that' presented a real challenge to him. His next opponent will be his toughest... and I don't think he can help Gesta look like everyone is seeing him as. All the champions at LW right now could beat him out right now and he missed his chance to win a title with Soto's vacated belt.
Also.. I think he's a slow starter that probably wouldn't be able to come back against an elite fighter.
          Rios would eat him up.

Saw both fights that Perez had with Rios and Gesta. Gesta won convincingly, while Rios got a draw. Like Gesta said, Perez was tough; but Gesta took him and got a UD. Just stating facts.

the guy he's fighting tonight is a good enough journeyman - but it's still not gonna really prove if he's the real deal or not. . . until he steps in the ring with rios, or another of the champions we won't be able to tell. . . even in a losing effort against rios, he can still prove his mettle and that he is for real. . . we'll see . in time. . . in time!

The only fight that you can compare Rios and Gesta with was the Perez fight - and Gesta looked more control over Perez then Rios did. Gesta with the UD & Rios with a draw. Like I stated before, I'll give the title of "hype-job" for Gesta; but if he wins convincingly tonight, either Soto, Vazquez or Rios next. And more talk of a "hype-job."

My memory is foggy (didn't watch the Gesta fight yet but I know that was his latest). I need to rewatch the Rios fight. I do know they rematched and he TKO'd him in that fight about 2 years ago.

lol u fail to mention he TKO'd him a few fights thereafter. . .

Rios has fought sooo much better competition than Gesta and he's KO'd them all. . . well except for Peterson, who he was likely on the way to KO'ing until he got himself DQ'd for low blows. . . Peterson, Acosta, Antillion. . . All HEAD AND SHOULDERS better than this guy Gesta is fighting tonight, or anyone else he's fought. . .

I like Gesta, and want to see him succeed, but I just don't think he's as good as the 4 champions at lightweight right now. . . a win tonight is another step, but still FAR from disproving himself as world class. . . .
