Richard Schaefer: Canelo's people have contacted me about fighting Kirkland.

    ChrisMannixSI Chris Mannix
Just talked to Richard Schaefer, who said Canelo Alvarez's people contacted him about fighting Kirkland.

    ChrisMannixSI Chris Mannix
Schaefer still thinks Canelo-Chavez Jr. is still Alvarez's first fight next year. But a Kirkland fight "definitely will happen."

Schaefer also dismissed reports of a potential Erik Morales- @FloydMayweather showdown. Said it wasn't on the table.

      Good stuff, Phantom.

Since Chavez cancelled his last fight because his fat ass couldn't even make weight, I think Bob Arum has woken up. He knows the only way to make any sort of return on his investment is to feed Chavez to Canelo.

Kirkland will probably be kept out of 'big' fights like Williams and Lara until he gets his first title shot.

And when the dust settles, Martinez will have another belt, but still no opponent.

Good stuff from Mannix. He's one of the better boxing journalists.

They keep talking about a Canelo/JCCJr. fight, but I haven't seen anything mentioned about a weight. Does anyone have any idea if this fight would take place at a catchweight?

Nice to see there is interest from Canelo in a possbile bout with Kirkland.

They were talking a catch-weight. Canelo wanted 156, but Bob Arum said 158 would have to be the weight.

Honestly, I think 158 itself would be a hell of a struggle for Chavez jr's fat ass to make.

If his recent competition inside and outside the ring is an indicator of anything I highly doubt this is true.
