MANILA, Philippines - World bantamweight champion Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire Jr. on Sunday said unbeaten American fighter Floyd Mayweather Jr. is just asking for attention when the latter announced his intention to fight again next year.
"KSP lang 'yan," Donaire told abs-cbnNEWS.com, referring to Mayweather.
KSP stands for "kulang sa pansin," a colloquial term for a person who seeks attention.
Mayweather's adviser, Leonard Ellerbe, announced last week that the undefeated boxer plans to put on "the biggest fight possible" on May 5, 2012.
Ellerbe hinted that Mayweather is targeting pound-for-pound king Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao, whom he called "the little fella."
Donaire believes that the announcement is just a form of attention-seeking behavior.
"I believe Manny is getting all the attention, and gusto niya rin yung attention," he said. "Kulang lang sa pansin si Mayweather."
Pacquiao is set to step into the ring on November 12 against rival Juan Manuel Marquez, but the Filipino champion has already been hounded by questions regarding a potential mega-fight against Mayweather.
"No problem, as long as there's no problem with the promoter," Pacquiao said of the Mayweather bout.
Donaire said it would be incredible to see Pacquiao and Mayweather in the ring.
"That would be an incredible fight. Ako, I'm a big boxing fan, and I wanna see the best fight out there," he said. "If that ever happens, wow."
Donaire is coming off a 12-round unanimous decision win over Argentina's Omar Narvaez last October.
